Pope Francis ‘worried’ about homosexuality and says gay people should not join Catholic clergy

... The pontiff said: “This is something I am concerned about, because perhaps at one time it did not receive much attention.”

He said candidates for the priesthood, as well as women seeking to become nuns, must be “humanly and emotionally mature”.

He added: “For this reason, the church urges that persons with this rooted tendency not be accepted into ministry or consecrated life.

“It’s better for them to leave the ministry or the consecrated life rather than to live a double life.”

Do NOT worry about "a priest shortage"!!!

Cleaning up this mess will HELP promote the Priesthood.

Mt 19:12b

"...and there are eunuchs who have made themselves eunuchs for the sake of the kingdom of heaven. He who is able to receive this, let him receive it."

Um that passage is about adultery. Meaning, once you are married you should you not divorce unless it is was for adultery. Good try though.

um...NO!

"...and there are eunuchs who have made themselves eunuchs for the sake of the kingdom of heaven..."

How do you reach that hairbrained interpretation from "made themselves eunuchs"?

Easy, you actually read the Chapter rather than listening to what some Catholic priest tells you what he thinks it means.

Me thinks you're 'understanding' is guided by your hatred for Catholics rather than the Holy Spirit.

Proven by your inability to actually explain your view.

"10 The disciples said to him, “If such is the case of a man with his wife, it is not expedient to marry.”

11 But he said to them, “Not all men can receive this precept, but only those to whom it is given.

12 For there are eunuchs who have been so from birth, and there are eunuchs who have been made eunuchs by men, and there are eunuchs who have made themselves eunuchs for the sake of the kingdom of heaven. He who is able to receive this, let him receive it."

Read the whole chapter in context.

I’ve read it in context and there is NO WAY to suggest that “eunuchs who have made themselves eunuchs” can be interpreted to refer to adultery!
<p
So, instead of suggesting that continued reading will covert me to your view, perhaps you have the wit to explain?

It was considered sinful to remarry unless you were divorced due to adultery.

Besides, the CC didn’t institute celibacy as rule for priests until hundreds of years later after Christ’s death. That tells me the rule of celibacy was man made and instituted rather than Biblical.

I’d argue that abuse is grounds for divorce.

Your interpretation has NOTHING to do with

"... and there are eunuchs who have made themselves eunuchs for the sake of the kingdom of heaven."!!!!

Your injection of the history of celibacy in the Church is completely irrelevant to the interpretation I've presented!

Of course it is, to you.

No wonder the CC has the problems it has!

Still you have no explanation...

and now you suggest that celibacy is an explanation for homosexuality...???

brilliant!

I never said celibacy is an explanation for homosexuality. Where on earth did you get that from? I said Matthew 19 is about divorce. Again, it was considered sinful to remarry another if a person wasn’t divorced due to adultery. That is why JC said to remain unmarried.

Romans 13 also said to obey the laws of the gov’t where you live. Same sex marriage is legal in the USA.

The CC has other eggs to fry than to worry about homosexual priests. Their concern should be homosexual priests who commit illegal sexual misconduct. That is why the CC is losing its moral authority and being bankrupted.

To reiterate: it has problems because it employs homosexual priests who dilute its moral authority and bankrupt it because they commit civil illegalities crimes of sexual misconduct.

You hide your incapacity in strange places.

Would care to explain how this passage has ANYTHING to do with adultery?

"... and there are eunuchs who have made themselves eunuchs for the sake of the kingdom of heaven."!!!!

I don’t believe the word eunuch in that scripture meant those who had manipulated themselves in a sexual manner. I believe the word means to live a life in which one doesn’t commit immorality which was considered sinful at the time.

It means to commit to celibacy for the sake of the kingdom!!!

No it doesn’t. It meant to commit one’s heart to God and remain sinless.

Matt Chapt 19 is about marriage and divorce.

If your argument was correct, the CC has failed miserably.

If you quit your Catholic bashing you'd have a better chance at understanding Scripture.

The footnote on this passage reads:

19.11-12 Jesus means that a life of continence is to be chosen only by those who are called to it for the sake of the kingdom of God.

Clearly beyond marriage or divorce.
