VATICAN CITY (Reuters) - Men with deep-rooted homosexual tendencies should not be admitted to the Catholic clergy, and it would be better for priests who are actively gay to leave rather than lead a double life, Pope Francis says in a new book.

That’s nice but it has nothing to do with this thread.

I may not be an expert on celibacy but it is painfully obvious that it is not working out very well for them.

I agree and some kind of reform is necessary. I would like to see Priests allowed to have normal healthy relationships with women. However; the Catholic church has taught homosexuality is a sin for thousands of years. Just because Western society finds it more acceptable now changes nothing in regards to the Catholic church. To my knowledge, and I admit to not being the best Catholic, men and women relationships have always been considered normal and healthy. Why not extend that to the Priests. Maybe even the Nuns or possibly have a secondary order of Nuns and Priests who can marry and have children? Just thinking out loud really.

Yes good for him
He’s as far as I can tell an honest broker who genuinely cares about the poor which is what the Catholic Church should be solely focused on

......”All it takes is for one to make the news buggering a boy and it makes the entire Catholic Church look like a pedo club.”.....

Well it has been just that for decades and the leadership certainly have known so and covered it over.....the POPE doesn’t quite get it that if a Priest is gay or a pediohile he needs to go period.

..Not saying so leaves a giant hole everyone of those who remain will slither themselves thru..... guaranteed.

So, AP says men with deep-rooted homosexual tendencies cannot be celibate, so should not be priests?

I always thought that since since Jesus founded a Church, and that church have us the Bible, that the Church would have just a bit to do with Christianity.

Another thought; The Bible does hold answers, but never read that it claimed to have all the answers.

The Bible does have all the answers. If you compare catholicism to the Bible, you will see that it doesn’t hold up.

It’s not a concession bc he said it before Vigano came out and accused him and his ilk. He is a two-faced pope, saying whatever he thinks he can get away with. Disgusting.

Again,
Never read in the Bible it saying it has all the answers. So to me such a claim, is well, “unBiblical”

It actually does, I don’t know how you don’t see it. That’s up to you though to read and let the Holy Spirit do his work.

They should change it to that so that 50 years old married men would be allowed to serve as priests. His children would be older so the main focus would be the church rather than family.

Would be great if you could point it out...I am aware of the “Scripture is useful” line which falls well short of saying it is all you need to know the truth; (useful as a hammer is to carpentry; try being a carpenter with just a hammer) And as for me reading the Bible and letting the Holy Spirit do his work, I would never know if it is the HS or Satan, which would explain how the supposed HS has guided the creation of bunches of contradictory denominations, all founded by people claiming it was guided by the HS.

Have a read of that. I’m sorry I was at work, and now I’m pretty sure supper is almost ready, but have a gander and tell me what you think, I only did a very fast read over.

Yes I read it; Really didn’t say anything I haven’t heard before. I could blather point by point on it but I’m sure you have heard it all too..

But for me the key to knowing what the Bible commands of us is to interpret it authoritatively and without error.
