What is the Weslayan teaching on the death penalty?
ealgeone;
It is true we call ourselves Catholics. But from the very beginning we Catholics considered ourselves to belong to the Church that Jesus founded. Accordingly, we consider ourselves to be Christians. We also recognize that members of other denominations, as followers of Jesus, are also Christians.
My Mom identified herself as a Methodist, as my sister does. My daughter-in-law identifies as a Presbyterian. My niece and her husband identify as Lutheran. I have cousins who identify as Baptist. Other family members belong to non-denominational congregations.
We all consider ourselves to be Christians; and we love, honor, and respect each other as fellow followers of Christ.
I have been on many Jesuit retreats. You’ve heard of Jesuits, haven’t you? They call themselves the society of Jesus. Our whole focus on those retreats is Jesus. I have been on several ACTS retreats. We spend the whole weekend focusing on our relationship with Jesus Christ.
We are indeed Christians, every bit as much as you are a Christian.
I wish that we FReepers, who have similar political views, could respect each other in the same way that members of my family respect each other.
May the peace of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ be with you.
Rich
Rich, I appreciate the reply.
However, your post illustrates a significant change in Roman Catholic teaching/dogma.
Prior to Vatican 2, non-Roman Catholics were not considered to be part of the "church" as we were not willing to be subject to the pope.
I think you have to admit that's a lot of change for the church that claims they never change.
I hope it will be matched by everyone here.
I would guess your score is around 114

The only score that matters is are you a follower of Christ?
One of the aspects of the respect that members of our family have for each other is that we focus on our many shared Christian beliefs. We recognize our differences, but do not go out of our way to criticize them.
If I may quote you; “The only score that matters is are you a follower of Christ?”
May you find peace in our Savior.
Catholics, by PRACTICE remain in: a lot of Mariology 'belief' and other non-biblical time wasters.
True.
Just merely TEACHINGS from the religious organization that the pope is head of.
Why does TODAYs Roman Catholic Church teach something different?
I have no idea.
I suppose I could look it up and post it.
There are six five pals here at FR that have no discernible consistent belief system other than a claimed superiority to their delusional version of what they often falsely claim that Catholic's believe.
