Jimmy Carter Says His Mideast Peace Push Drove Evangelicals To GOP

Ex-President Jimmy Carter says his push for Middle East Peace played an important role in turning the evangelical voting bloc into the arms of the Republican Party.

Carter told the Associated Press, that he, “took a position of wanting to see balance between Israel and the Palestinians.” Carter wasn’t able to bring about a final peace deal and was seen by some as not being pro-Israel enough.

He claims that this was a major factor in evangelicals aligning with the Republican Party, which has since adopted a hardline pro-Israel stance. They were a major factor in President Trump’s shocking upset win.

“Evangelicals are naturally inclined from a religious point of view to be loyal to Israel,” he said, noting their more literal interpretations of the Bible. Trump has emboldened Christian Zionists. They played a role in Trump’s decision to move the U.S. Embassy to Jerusalem, and Trump’s Vice President, Mike Pence, addressed their annual conference this year.

Carter pointed out that Christians Zionists also believe “that the Jews should also all become Christians — that’s not often mentioned.”

In the interview Carter, a devout Baptist, admitted that Democratic Party positions on abortion and women’s rights, also played a major role in evangelical allegiance to the GOP.

The only thing his peace-push did was give rise to Ted Koppel.

“It was the left’s counter culture and anti christian movement that pushed the evangelicals to the GOP.”

****************

Exactly. That and Carter’s bumbling and naive ineptitude.

One would hope that Evangelicals are not so hollow that their loyalties to Israel are fluid.

I’ve always hear that the Evangelicals were first motivated by the Roe vs. Wade decision, but I’m not a Historian. I do know that Carter was a disaster on the economy and Iran.

"Well, duh." Salvation is only through Christ. If one denies the Son, they cannot be said to have the Father.

Factoids:
Jimmy Carter was never a nuclear engineer. Admiral Hyman Rickover, when asked, said that he knew nothing of Carter in the Navy.
Jimmy Carter was known to be a racist when he was governor of Georgia. He was also an incompetent governor.
The peace process was initiated by Menachem Begin and Anwar Sadat. It was Sadat who made the first move. Begin and Sadat had to cajole Carter into hosting the Camp David meeting.

Close to true. Jimmy Carter took a position of wanting to see balance between the victims of terrorism and the terrorists. Normal people were disgusted by that, while today's Left embraced extended Carter's position to today's antisemitic all out support for the Palestinian terrorists.

America under Carter was in a dark place. I was just a kid when we were subject to waiting in lines to put gas in the car on alternating days. We lived in the middle of the East Texas Oil Field, just minutes away from the World’s Riches Acre. The absurdity of such limitations was noticed by me and will never be forgotten.

The Iran hostage saga was another crucial event. America seemed impotent under Carter, and the rescue attempt fiasco only made this a cruel reality. Add to that the high interest rates, unemployment, disco, and some of the worst fashion choices in the history of America, and it was a pretty crappy time to be an American.

Thank God for Ronald Reagan and the 80s.

The ONLY thing I give Carter any credit for is getting Egypt and Israel together.
