Pope Francis has made several controversial statements throughout the years, but perhaps none quite as controversial as the one in this video.

What statement?

What should the Pope should have told a young child grieving for his recently deceased beloved father...that his daddy will suffer the tortures of the damned for all eternity?

nah, lying to a child is better- so that when the child gets older- he will learn his dad probably is in hell AND that the pope lied to him

The pope gave the impression that even though the father was an atheist, because he did a nice thing, he would go to heaven. That is a complete contradiction to Scripture. It’s hard to justify in any context.

Would Jesus have lied to the child? No, He would not. Either (1) tell the truth OR
(2) Be vague which Frankie is a master at already.

The way of Francis and the way of Christ are incompatible.

The Pope is a South American Marxist who hates Capitalism even though his Church could not exist in anything but a country devoted to Western Civilization values. What he says to a grieving child is nothing compare to what he is doing to the Church.

Author misunderstands Catholicism. Do not think him qualified to opine on Pope. And I myself have concerns about the Pope’s words.

I am right now reading "Dictator Pope" and I have to tell you that Frankie comes across like Barack Obama.

Let that sink in for a moment.

Jesus said, "You will know them by their fruit". The pope just lied,...one of many. I can judge sin, but I can;t judge the sinner. Pastor's and teacher's will have a harsher judgement. What does that mean for a man shepherding millions?

This one man is doing more harm to the church than a thousand have done in the past. These are the basic tenants of Christianity 101. No one comes to the Father except through me, and there is none good no not one. We are saved with faith through grace, and not through works. His father could have had everyone be baptized and then sold everything and gave to to the church, but if didn't believe, he's not in heaven. No works saves anyone. If you are saved, then works are expected.

This is astonishing that a Pope would say this.

Jesus said:
Matthew 7:14
But small is the gate and narrow the road that leads to life, and only a few find it.

Sadly, the Church has had bad Popes in the past, and it appears they have another one.

I read the account of the boy being just about FORCED to ask the question.

The whole episode went off the rails there.

Any one can make a mistake, you said He rejects faith alone (Eph. 2:8.

we are not saved by faith, we are saved by his grace through our faith.

No, love covers a multitude of sins. He who has loved much is forgiven much. And even the millstone one could apply if the pope had told him his father was doomed. It says the little boy told told the pope his father was an atheist but that all the children had been baptized.

Little Alfie's father is in Rome meeting with the pope. Little Alfie passed asay, may God hace mercy on his soul and comfort all those who cared for him. I don't know what the father believes or if Little Alfie was baptized. The pope is consoling him. The pope did a very loving thing doing everything humanly possible to give that child one more chance.

So even though he and other popes have said confusing things, this one especially outrages conservatives, he has done some very loving things. And on Little Alfie, he didn't seem to be pandering to public opinion but acting from his heart.

It's not you, Simon, but shocking comments that put doctrine over compassion for a little child and the "all powerful and ever loving God" as it says in the NO mass..

I don’t like this Pope at all and I think he should be removed but I stopped reading at “I would define demonic as any false teaching that distorts the Gospel (Gal. 1:6-9) in a way that would lead people to hell”.

The whole Roman Catholic religion is contradictory to God’s word. I wouldn’t worry about what someone says or doesn’t say.

Call a spade a spade.

Catholics pray the Apostles Creed. What do you object to in the Apostles Creed?
