New EU Bishops’ Head Pledges to Fight Populism

Archbishop Jean-Claude Hollerich called for dialogue with disillusioned voters

The new head of a commission representing Europe’s Catholic bishops pledged to combat populism and promote European unity.

“The European Union is a gain for the common good, and this is why the Church should be in constant dialogue with it,” said Archbishop Jean-Claude Hollerich of Luxembourg, elected president of the Brussels-based Commission of the Bishops’ Conferences of the European Community March 8.

“But certain citizens have their own preoccupations, and there’s now a growing populism. Combating this needn’t mean adopting populism’s adages, but engaging in a true dialogue of depth and friendship, where everything can be said,” he said.

Archbishop Hollerich said he was ready to work with everyone “dedicated to respecting and protecting human dignity” and believed COMECE, as the commission is known, played a vital role in placing people at the center of EU policies.

German Cardinal Reinhard Marx of Munich-Freising, outgoing president of the commission, also urged church leaders to “get the forces of dialogue going,” rather than thinking they had “an answer to everything.”

Cardinal Marx is right here about prudential issues (like how to enact and implement immigration laws and whether the EU is for the “common good “), but not dogmatic issues.

Groovy.

So he’s going to apologize for the Albigensian Massacres, St. Bartholomew’s Day Massacre, the Inquisition, the Hundred Years War, the Thirty Years War, the Pogroms in the Pale of Settlement, and all the other atrocities organized by the Vatican and their darling friends?

Yeah. European Unity. As long as you-know-who stays in charge.

Just who do you think is in charge of the EU?

Absolutely certainly not the Catholics.

Which is why it's so surreal and even outrageous to Catholic that certain Higher Hierarchs are so assiduously selling us out to this Brussels-based nest of socialist secularist weasels.

Cardinal Marx and his posse like to think they are major Realpolitik players with the Big Boys: a laughable (if it weren't so tragic), Chance the Gardener-level pathetic delusion.

Exactly. What is Catholicism if not populism?! Red and purple hats have made this mistake in history before.
