(people believe the sources and portions of those sources, that they wish to believe or that their parents or clerics recommend......so there’s a great deal of diversity of belief, even when the number of major sources is rather small)
this is just the way things are.
I have had interesting discussions dealing with the correct interpretation of Biblical prophecies .. wherein to save their position the proponents of Christological verses have found it necessary to try citing certain Talmudic or other rabbinic writings to save or shore up their contentions.’
And, obviously, many times the shoe is on the other foot, ha!
Conclusion... people will start out with a pretty clear general position about which sources they accept and which they do not. But, when they get into difficulty, especially I think in the area of prophetic interpretation, they will often rush over to the other church or synagogue and grab sources that they personally would normally never consult.
there is relatively little really new under the sun, ha!
