The U.S. Is Retreating from Religion
Scientific American ^ | October 20, 2017 | Allen Downey

Since 1990, the fraction of Americans with no religious affiliation has nearly tripled, from about 8 percent to 22 percent. Over the next 20 years, this trend will accelerate: by 2020, there will be more of these "Nones" than Catholics, and by 2035, they will outnumber Protestants.

The following figure shows changes since 1972 and these predictions, based on data from the General Social Survey (GSS):

Then yours is increasingly rare. Treasure it as long as you can.

And that’s why everything is going to crap.

Retreating from God only breaks you.

Maybe, but it’s consistent with what the Bible tells us will happen.

Or the churches have become gods.

Yes it is. What I said is also consistent with bible says was true, is true, and will continue to be true. Even at the end, God is still throwing unbelievers whose hearts cannot know him into the fire.

Churches became more social clubs than places to teach the Gospel.

What would things look like if Satan really took control of a city? Over a half century ago, Presbyterian minister Donald Grey Barnhouse offered his own scenario in his weekly sermon that was also broadcast nationwide on CBS radio. Barnhouse speculated that if Satan took over Philadelphia, all of the bars would be closed, pornography banished, and pristine streets would be filled with tidy pedestrians who smiled at each other. There would be no swearing. The children would say, “Yes, sir” and “No, ma’am,” and the churches would be full every Sunday . . . where Christ is not preached.

Yep. First they became social clubs. Then they become socialist clubs.

No religion is better than dry and dead religion posing as Christianity. They are ripe to be really saved and brought into a living relationship with God, through Jesus Christ the living LORD.

Ummmm - a lot of us dumped “religion” for non-denominational churches which use the Bible as the main guide and spend a LOT more time talking about Jesus.....

It seems right to acknowledge that deniers know the fact of God’s existence as pointed out in several comments above, but refuse to know the person of God as you explain in your post #46.

To the human mind, many things about God “seem right”, but still don’t agree with the totality of Scripture. Oh, they seem right when a person chooses the right proof texts, but just finding the verses that prove your feelings are correct means very little.

The point is, all atheists know the fact of God’s existence.

In 1962 prayer was removed from schools. The retreat began then, I believe.

Not all. Some know of God’s existence and fight hard to reject him. These are the angry atheists who don’t want to be tempted with any mention of God or Jesus Christ. The others, the quiet atheists, truly lack the Holy Spirit that enables us to see general revelation as the work of God. They are Natural Man.

“The problem isn’t so much that Americans don’t want religion or God. The problem is that the churches have become godless.”

In other words....for multiple decades....the “church” has been espousing “socialism”....whether right or left.

Follow the money....even in “christian” denominations.

1 Timothy 6:10King James Version (KJV)

10: For the love of money is the root of all evil: which while some coveted after, they have erred from the faith, and pierced themselves through with many sorrows.

“Clearly, all will be Torah-believing followers of G-d and His commandments. Welcome to the team, y’all!”

The Grace that is Christ doesn’t negate the “law”, it full-fills the law to an everlasting revelation that the “law” cannot full-fill in-of-it’s self.

“2 Corinthians 3:6King James Version (KJV)

6: Who also hath made us able ministers of the new testament; not of the letter, but of the spirit: for the letter killeth, but the spirit giveth life.”

It was the self-sacrifice of Christ that tore the veil, Christ’s body, between the “Holy Place”, the “law”, and the “Holy of Holies”, “Grace”, finalizing the struggle between our Father in heaven and his only begotten son, Christ, and the Lucifer/Great Serpent.

“John 19:30King James Version (KJV)

30: When Jesus therefore had received the vinegar, he said, It is finished: and he bowed his head, and gave up the ghost.”
