Priests and therapists should report all crimes.
What about thought crimes?
How about lawyers? If a lawyer learns his client committed a crime should he report what he found out to authorities?
Given that penitents have a right to have their confessions in a way that allows them to remain anonymous, who is the priest supposed to report? Somebody confessed x to me and I’m guessing that it was Mr. Y?
Reporting what they heard in confession, as well as being a serious crime in itself under church law, is merely hearsay in the civil law. A competent defense attorney would demolish it in an instant. The agenda here is to damage the Church, not to protect children.
