elsie: Have you any evidence of this ‘retaining’ even being applied?

Pet:Are you denying that this authority was given to the Apostles? Do you not believe the Bible?

How are your questions back an answer to Elsie's question?

Could you try to answer it instead of deflecting the conversation?

I think you don’t really understand that a scapular is simply an aid to a goal, as exercise equipment is an aid to becoming stronger.

Say what??

When we use it as a prayer, Our Lady draws us to the Sacred Heart of Her Divine Son. It is good, therefore, to hold the scapular in the hand. A prayer offered while holding the Scapular is as perfect as a prayer can be.

A little piece of man-made cloth makes a prayer perfect??

In the year 1251, in the town of Aylesford in England, Our Lady appeared to St. Simon Stock, a Carmelite. She handed him a brown woolen scapular and said, “This shall be a privilege for you and all Carmelites, that anyone dying in this habit shall not suffer eternal fire.”

That's some aid!

elsie:For the sake of the lurkers anyway; can you post the LIST of these sins that the RCC has discovered and judged as being NOT deadly and the ones that ARE?

Pet:Do you not believe the words of Scripture? Scripture cannot denied, thus this distinction must exist. Do not, however, look for a list but for the conditions. These I have already posted: grave matter, sufficient reflection, and full consent of the will.

How is your question an answer to Elsie's question?

Could you just try outright answering something instead of continually evading answering?

Personal interpretation is a different thing; obviously we must see how Scripture applies to ourselves. What is taught to others about what Scripture means, however, is a different thing.

The Church has always proclaimed Scripture to the people (who were for a long time illiterate), and never forbidden people from reading *Catholic* bibles; in fact, Catholic bibles were always available to people inside the church. Some bishops in France during a period of conflict between Catholics and Protestants there forbade the reading of the Bible in translation, but it would seem that the translations available at the time were not Catholic and were being used and distributed to lead people away from the Catholic Church.

You were wrong. Only Mortal Sins need to be forgiven in Confession since Venial Sins do not separate us from God. I would suggest you study Catholic teaching before you criticize it.

ALL sin separates us from God.

Adam and Eve simply ate a piece of fruit and that was enough for death to enter the world.

Romans 6:23 For the wages of sin is death, but the free gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord.

This categorizing sin so that people can push the envelope and get away with as much as possible and think they are still able to avoid hell is from the pit itself.

This from the Catholic's favorite book of the Bible.....

James 2:8-11 If you really fulfill the royal law according to the Scripture, “You shall love your neighbor as yourself,” you are doing well. But if you show partiality, you are committing sin and are convicted by the law as transgressors. For whoever keeps the whole law but fails in one point has become accountable for all of it. For he who said, “Do not commit adultery,” also said, “Do not murder.” If you do not commit adultery but do murder, you have become a transgressor of the law.

"The promises attached to the brown scapular."

Which is deadlier??

Brown Scapula that can lead to the death of soul to hell.

Brown Recluse that can only kill the flesh.

NOTE: Neither referenced in Scripture!

"I imagine that there is a Protestant explanation for how this reference to “Scripture,” which is written before some or all of the NT was written and certainly before it was compiled, covers the NT..." It was written by PETER, under the inspiration of the Holy Spirit. You do recognize his authority over your church? [I understand about multiplying conversations and side conversations]

< Well, a careful reading of Acts 15 will show how the Apostles handled disputes in the early Church.

Be careful you don't miss the letter that the early Catholic church to the Gentiles.

It outlines EVERYTHING!!!

Acts 15

The Council at Jerusalem
1 Certain people came down from Judea to Antioch and were teaching the believers: "Unless you are circumcised, according to the custom taught by Moses, you cannot be saved." 2 This brought Paul and Barnabas into sharp dispute and debate with them. So Paul and Barnabas were appointed, along with some other believers, to go up to Jerusalem to see the apostles and elders about this question. 3 The church sent them on their way, and as they traveled through Phoenicia and Samaria, they told how the Gentiles had been converted. This news made all the believers very glad. 4 When they came to Jerusalem, they were welcomed by the church and the apostles and elders, to whom they reported everything God had done through them.

5 Then some of the believers who belonged to the party of the Pharisees stood up and said, "The Gentiles must be circumcised and required to keep the law of Moses."

6 The apostles and elders met to consider this question. 7 After much discussion, Peter got up and addressed them: "Brothers, you know that some time ago God made a choice among you that the Gentiles might hear from my lips the message of the gospel and believe. 8 God, who knows the heart, showed that he accepted them by giving the Holy Spirit to them, just as he did to us. 9 He did not discriminate between us and them, for he purified their hearts by faith. 10 Now then, why do you try to test God by putting on the necks of Gentiles a yoke that neither we nor our ancestors have been able to bear? 11 No! We believe it is through the grace of our Lord Jesus that we are saved, just as they are."

12 The whole assembly became silent as they listened to Barnabas and Paul telling about the signs and wonders God had done among the Gentiles through them. 13 When they finished, James spoke up. "Brothers," he said, "listen to me. 14 Simon has described to us how God first intervened to choose a people for his name from the Gentiles. 15 The words of the prophets are in agreement with this, as it is written:

16 "'After this I will return
   and rebuild David's fallen tent.
Its ruins I will rebuild,
   and I will restore it,
17 that the rest of mankind may seek the Lord,
even all the Gentiles who bear my name,
says the Lord, who does these things'
18 things known from long ago.

19 "It is my judgment, therefore, that we should not make it difficult for the Gentiles who are turning to God. 20 Instead we should write to them, telling them to abstain from food polluted by idols, from sexual immorality, from the meat of strangled animals and from blood. 21 For the law of Moses has been preached in every city from the earliest times and is read in the synagogues on every Sabbath."

The Council's Letter to Gentile Believers
22 Then the apostles and elders, with the whole church, decided to choose some of their own men and send them to Antioch with Paul and Barnabas. They chose Judas (called Barsabbas) and Silas, men who were leaders among the believers. 23 With them they sent the following letter:

The apostles and elders, your brothers,

To the Gentile believers in Antioch, Syria and Cilicia:

   Greetings.

24 We have heard that some went out from us without our authorization and disturbed you, troubling your minds by what they said. 25 So we all agreed to choose some men and send them to you with our dear friends Barnabas and Paul— 26 men who have risked their lives for the name of our Lord Jesus Christ. 27 Therefore we are sending Judas and Silas to confirm by word of mouth what we are writing. 28 It seemed good to the Holy Spirit and to us not to burden you with anything beyond the following requirements: 29 You are to abstain from food sacrificed to idols, from blood, from the meat of strangled animals and from sexual immorality. You will do well to avoid these things.

   Farewell.

30 So the men were sent off and went down to Antioch, where they gathered the church together and delivered the letter. 31 The people read it and were glad for its encouraging message. 32 Judas and Silas, who themselves were prophets, said much to encourage and strengthen the believers. 33 After spending some time there, they were sent off by the believers with the blessing of peace to return to those who had sent them. [34] 35 But Paul and Barnabas remained in Antioch, where they and many others taught and preached the word of the Lord.

Disagreement Between Paul and Barnabas
36 Some time later Paul said to Barnabas, "Let us go back and visit the believers in all the towns where we preached the word of the Lord and see how they are doing." 37 Barnabas wanted to take John, also called Mark, with them, 38 but Paul did not think it wise to take him, because he had deserted them in Pamphylia and had not continued with them in the work. 39 They had such a sharp disagreement that they parted company. Barnabas took Mark and sailed for Cyprus, 40 but Paul chose Silas and left, commended by the believers to the grace of the Lord. 41 He went through Syria and Cilicia, strengthening the churches.

It took me some time even after I got saved to realize the full truth about God's love and grace. Having the assurance of my salvation has given me an attitude of gratitude towards by Lord and Savior and the thought of ever intentionally sinning against Him is repulsive. It is no longer fear that gives me the desire to be holy but love. I see the process He has worked in me conforming into the image of Christ and that is how I know I am His own. It is something I will never give up - nor ever want to.

It's the same for me too. I now try to be the best I can be out of love for Our Lord who saved me when I certainly didn't deserve it. I no longer conform out of fear but intense LOVE of my Father.

Nay! I shall tell you what to fear!!

The dreaded Angolan Witch Spider!!!

First found in Texas.

Authorities presume that some eggs were inside the clothing bags of some Angolan refugees when they landed their boat in Amarillo.

.
There is nowhere in the entire Bible that says anyone is saved by grace.

It is by the grace of Yehova that we can eventually be saved at the day of trumpets, through FAITH.

That is what the verse clearly says; salvation is made available through faith and only faith.

Grace was only the opening of the door to the beginnings of faith, and he who endures to the end shall be saved. That is what Yeshua and every apostle has said.

Okay, so why do you dismiss what that First Ekklesia Council issued as their agreed verdict with ‘it seemed good to the Holy Spirit and us’ seal?

Sorry old cow, this is stated wrong: “Be careful you don’t miss the letter that the early Catholic church to the Gentiles.” The ‘early Catholic Church’ part is wrong since the Catholic Church (the Org —rhymes with Borg— did not originate until after the LAST Apostles was dead.

Heh, then those priests and nuns lied to me about what I needed to confess in confession.

But Praise GOD! I found out this Truth as GOD promised in Scripture.

1 John 1:8-10 If we say we have no sin, we deceive ourselves, and the truth is not in us. If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness. If we say we have not sinned, we make him a liar, and his word is not in us.

We don't need a priest to go to and no priest can retain sin that GOD HIMSELF promised to forgive, and the only requirement for apprehending that forgiveness is confessing it.

And I can go right to God myself.
