Nehemiah Prays for His People (NKJV)

1 The words of Nehemiah the son of Hachaliah.

It came to pass in the month of Chislev, in the twentieth year, as I was in Shushan the citadel, 2 that Hanani one of my brethren came with men from Judah; and I asked them concerning the Jews who had escaped, who had survived the captivity, and concerning Jerusalem. 3 And they said to me, "The survivors who are left from the captivity in the province are there in great distress and reproach. The wall of Jerusalem is broken down, and its gates are burned with fire."

4 So it was, when I heard these words, that I sat down and wept, and mourned for many days; I was fasting and praying before the God of heaven.

5 And I said: "I pray, Lord God of heaven, O great and awesome God, You who keep Your covenant and mercy with those who love You and observe Your commandments, 6 please let Your ear be attentive and Your eyes open, that You may hear the prayer of Your servant which I pray before You for the children of Israel Your servants, and confess the sins of the children of Israel which we have sinned against You. Both my father’s house and I have sinned. 7 We have acted very corruptly against You, and have not kept the commandments, the statutes, nor the ordinances which You commanded Your servant Moses.

8 Remember, I pray, the word that You commanded Your servant Moses, saying, 'If you are unfaithful, I will scatter you among the nations; 9 but if you return to Me, and keep My commandments and do them, though some of you were cast out to the farthest part of the heavens, yet I will gather them from there, and bring them to the place which I have chosen as a dwelling for My name.'

10 Now these are Your servants and Your people, whom You have redeemed by Your great power, and by Your strong hand. 11 O Lord, I pray, please let Your ear be attentive to the prayer of Your servant, and to the prayer of Your servants who desire to fear Your name; and let Your servant prosper this day, I pray, and grant him mercy in the sight of this man."

For I was the king’s cupbearer.

A cupbearer was an officer of high rank in royal courts whose duty it was to serve the drinks at the royal table. Due to the constant fear of plots and intrigues, a cupbearer had to be thoroughly trustworthy, to guard against poison in the king's cup. Sometimes he or she was required to swallow some of the wine before serving it. His confidential relations with the king often gave him a position of great influence, given only to a select few.

Nehemiah rose to the high rank of palace cupbearer to King Artaxerxes, sixth King of the Medio/Persian Empire. In Artaxerxes' 21st year (445 BC), Nehemiah, a Jew, told Artaxerxes of the plight of the Jewish people recently returned to ravaged Judah from 70 years of exile in Babylon, and that the city of Jerusalem was undefended. King Artaxerxes sent Nehemiah with letters of safe passage to Judah, to rebuild the city walls. Once there, Nehemiah defied the opposition of Judah's enemies on all sides—Samaritans, Ammonites, Arabs and Philistines—and rebuilt the walls within 52 days.

Father God,

Astounding Creator, Great and Eternal Lord, we give You praise and thanksgiving! We humbly pray, Father, for our sister and brothers wounded yesterday, and for their families. May there be a complete healing, Lord, of each individual, and a renewed dedication to Your Word lived out in their hearts and lives. We give thanks that they were spared from the actions of a madman.

Be with Rep. Scalise through the coming weeks as his severe injuries are treated and repaired. Help all medical and administrative personnel to give their highest commitment of professional care, regardless of their political views, to all the injured, moving with the grace of the Holy Spirit. Help all family members to travel safely, give support and encouragement, and renew a devotion to Your Word, in realization of Your mercy.

Father, we pray that you bless all members of our Congress, leading them by the Spirit to humility, meekness and dedication to the enormous tasks facing our nation and for which they have been elected. May they be convicted with understanding that they are to be an example of the civility expected of all citizens who choose self-restraint in order to enjoy self-government in freedom.

Father, we pray that you bless all those in the media who have called for violence with a deep conviction of shame. For nothing but conscience can heal their poisonous treason against The People and the process that has installed our President and leaders. Close the mouths and freeze the keyboards of the devil's tools, we pray.

We lift up our nation to you for a cleansing and a unifying spirit across the land, that our governments at every level, our families, our military and defense workers, our churches, and especially all levels of education and all outlets of media will be turned to Your purposes. As a nation, we have sinned against you. As intercessors, we are cupbearers called to recognize the sins disguised in the strong drink of hedonism, selfishness, ego, idolatry, class warfare, corrupt ideologies and partisan strife, and implore Your intervention that our fellow citizens will avoid partaking of it.

In Jesus' Holy Name we pray,

Now consider this, you who forget God, lest I tear you in pieces
and there be none to deliver: whoever offers praise glorifies Me;
and to him who orders his conduct aright
I will show the salvation of God.

We come boldly before Your throne in the Name of JESUS CHRIST to ask miracle healings for Rep. Scalise, Officer Griner, Matt Mika, and Zach Barth. May the world stand amazed and give You the glory.

In the Name of JESUS, we cancel the plans of schemers and the corrupt who desire to bring down the TRUMP Administration. Only You, GOD, can place kings on the thrones and remove them. Take away all authority of the wicked. May they never rise again. Your Will be done concerning PRESIDENT TRUMP and the destiny of AMERICA.

Pour Your SPIRIT out upon our nation, FATHER GOD. Forgive us. Revive us. Restore us. Let our lights shine for You.

Blessed is the nation whose GOD is the LORD. We put our trust in You.
