As I intimated previously, all the people I know who claim to believe in evolution have no deeper understanding of it than I do. Sure, evolution sounded good in my 7th grade "life science" class. Kinda sounds like BS to me now. But all I've studied since then is a Microbiology class in 10th grade and a survey Botany course sophomore year in college.
I don't read evolutionary biology journals for fun, nor would I be inclined to trust them now anyway, Lysenkoism being the dominant form of scientific inquiry these days.
I’m more a defender of scientific inquiry,, than I am a defender of evolution. No theory is ever perfect, so words like “lie” aren’t really applicable to a legitimate scientific exploration, properly and openly documented.
I’d suggest reading Darwin’s book. Be skeptical, but also realize that 150 years later people are still talking about it.

Your statement shows a fundamental misunderstanding evolutionary theory. They all evolved from earlier common ancestors. Some evolved into humans, some into gorillas or chimps. Nobody says humans evolved from gorillas or chimps.
As for "where did x come from" you can also ask "where did God come from"? Not being able to answer every question doesn't mean all the asnwers suggested by evidence are false. Disproving one part of a theory doesn't disprove the whole thing. Science doesn't work that way. Divine revelation does though. If you say the Bible is 100% the literal word of God, then disproving even one part of it disproves that contention.
But my larger point is that almost no evolution "supporters" have any more knowledge of the subject than I do,, which I documented previously. And yet, they "believe" it, almost entirely because it was something they wanted to believe. But that's called "science," and not faith. And I am Catholic, lol, I don't even have to believe in evolution. Have we ever witnessed a species changing into another because of random genetic mutations?
So what caused some of the common ancestors to evolve into apes and others into humans? Random genetic mutations? The influence of external environmental influences? What are apes evolving into now? What are we?

I have a standing challenge to any advocate of evolution to watch "Dragons: a fantasy made real" and tell me what, beside any overt admissions in the faux-documentary, lets you know this is fiction as opposed to the Discovery Channel's normal "science" fare?
The fact is most "scientifically literate" laymen are no more informed than those who listened to Orson Well's "War of the Worlds."
I know full well I could understand a theory of evolution as well as I can understand the "law" of gravity: "throw something up, and it will fall down;" but no one can put it like that that.
"Natural selection," "Survival of the fittest?" Yeah, I know what those those purport to mean, but it's the not just the mechanics of it, how is that even observable? Biology is not geology.
If random mutations help them survive under external environmental influences and reproduce, those would be passed along more often.
What are apes evolving into now?
Who knows? Maybe nothing. Probably more species die out than evolve into something else. Others are quite well adapted and don't need to change. Sharks have been around for hundreds of millions of years. Check back in a million years and see.
What are we?
The great existential question. One for philosophy more than science.

I can understand evolution of a species. As an example, there are many different breeds of dogs and cats. Dogs have a common ancestor, so do cats...but they are all still basically cats and dogs.
Same for humans. Surely we have evolved to thrive in our geographic location (and other influences), but we have always been human. When God threw Adam and Eve from the garden, he clothed them in skins of animals - it makes a case for cro magnum man. (Did I say that right?)
But, humans have always been humans, regardless of their human evolution. A dog or a cat does not have an elephant as a common ancestor even though an elephant (or Woolley mammoth) has the same basic layout as a cat or a dog. The common ancestor to dog may be a wolf, the common ancestor to cat may be the saber tooth, but they are still dogs and cats.
It makes no sense to me that a human would have any common ancestor that is not human. Two arms two legs and a foul personality does not make a case for an ape and a human to have a common ancestor. Our only
common ancestors are Adam and Eve, regardless of where the atheist thinks they came from.
I have no idea where God came from. Not a clue. I do know that it is difficult for modern man to accept the premise of a God. It is a bit disconcerting to know there is an entity that created you, that you are only clay in the potters wheel.
At what rate do beneficial, non-deleterious, genetic mutations occur?
At what rate do random, non-deleterious, environment-specific genetic mutations occur, ones of such significance, that they would provide a dominant advantage to their offspring above all others?
Have we observed such , are we observing such presently?

Yes and with all that breeding, dogs, cat, and hogs will revert to their wild genetics within a few generations. What you are seeing is gene expression. The original genetics are still there
I don’t disagree. My own sweet kitty shows that multiple times. So do the dogs come to think of it.
Now, if you’re trying to tie this into human genetics, I might be in trouble. We have all seen liberals pooping on cars and throwing shit...which makes a case for a monkey ancestor. Those same liberals will face God one day, and answer for their sinful nature.

Otherwise, Darwin's theories, being fundamentally unable to be observed, occupy the same realm as social science, ie. BS. I spent enough time in the humanities where "proof" takes the form of forensic argument, not science.
