Listening to Philip De Courcy while driving this morning. His theme was, “Father, forgive them, for they know not what they do”, and he admitted this was a tough one for him, even though he knew it was the truth.
He described a concentration camp victim who, looking outside from his prison barracks, could see a hangmen’s noose, and the many he’d seen thus swinging; some praying, some spitting out invective, and he wondered what he’d say when it came his turn.
I can’t recall the cc victim’s name, but he survived, living to write a book some six years later in which he struggled with this same sentiment.
In another instance, De Courcy cited another individual, who’s name also escapes me, who was asked what the most important thing in his life was, and without missing a beat he replied, “My accountability to God”.
I gotta tell you, it was a bit tough to take, wondering how I’d act in similar circumstances. Although, I don’t think I’ll ever forget, “My accountability to God”.
Wow!
We are to hate the sin and love the sinner. It is possible to hate the deeds done, and still love the person who is created in the image of God.
These days, though, it is harder to understand this, because the deeds are personalized. It is easier to disregard and hate the individual than to accept the person in God's image.
This doesn't mean we have to accept or even tolerate the deeds. But hate should be reserved for those things that offend God, and not those that He has created.
We are to hate the sin and love the sinner.
2) If you love the sinner and tell them the truth, they will hate you for that, and not be your friend in most cases. Some will repent, those are Gods sheep you are to look for. So keep loving them until they string you up or you lose your job...............
3) Loving does not mean “you poor thing”, and hoping they will like you.
4) God will have mercy on who he will have mercy. All have come short .......................
SO THE BOTTOM LINE IS DO YOU LOVE THEM ENOUGH TO SPEAK THE TRUTH TO THEM, OR WILL YOU LET THEM DIE IN THEIR SIN.
The King James version of the Bible is incomplete. It had things added and subtracted from the original Vulgate (Catholic Latin) Bible by Luther.
The first Bible was compiled by St. Jerome. Additionaly, the first Bible printed by the Gutenberg Press was the Catholic Bible.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gutenberg_Bible
The Gutenberg Bible (also known as the 42-line Bible, the Mazarin Bible or the B42) was the first major book printed in the West using movable type. It marked the start of the Gutenberg Revolution and the age of the printed book in the West. Widely praised for its high aesthetic and artistic qualities,[1] the book has an iconic status. Written in Latin, the Gutenberg Bible is an edition of the Vulgate, printed by Johannes Gutenberg, in Mainz, in present-day Germany, in the 1450s.
Unfortunately it took on a life of it's own.
Going forward from this point, as you can tell from today's topic, not every thread will venture into events of the day. But on the other hand, I'm sure from time to time, current events may get mixed up in the discussions of ethical issues, but mixing politics with religion is not my intent of this thread.
Thank you. I can’t stand it when some Christians try to bait others into an argument. (Or, perhaps, I “hate” it. :) I had an uncle who did that, trying to get his children mad. Not good. (”...provoke not your children to wrath...”)
The truth is the truth, but everyone needs to understand that in KJV, the old words don’t necessarily mean what modern Americans think they mean. “Perfect” often simply means “complete”, as in “has all the pieces”, or “finished”... Your explanation of hate, from a reputable source, is a great example of that.
And threads like this often remind me of the “King James Only” crowd. I love King James Version. It is what I read now, what I grew up with, what I have memorized over the years, BUT, to say it is the only one that is “holy”, is to say that every non-English speaking Christian is lost, because there is no “Spanish King James Version”, or “French King James Version”...
May God continue to bless you.
One of the prettiest sounds in the world is the late Alexander Scourby’s narration of the KJV.
Martin Luther didn't know what he was talking about if he indeed said that. The Catholic church tried for centuries to destroy the true Word of God. If it wasn't for the Greek Orthodox churches, the Anabaptist, Waldeneses, and others like them who preserved the actual Word of God, we wouldn't have the true Word of God in the King James version.
**Catholic church tried for centuries to destroy the true Word of God.**
Where are you getting this information?
The Catholic Church has ALWAYS adhered to the Word of God.
Please add me to your ping list.
Those other books aren't part of the Canon.
So the problem with your question is - if you rely on only the KJV and your common English understanding, you will be in trouble with a word study for hate.
Mat_6:24 No man can serve two masters: for either he will hate the one, and love the other; or else he will hold to the one, and despise the other. Ye cannot serve God and mammon.
Luk_1:71 That we should be saved from our enemies, and from the hand of all that hate us;
Luk_6:22 Blessed are ye, when men shall hate you, and when they shall separate you from their company, and shall reproach you, and cast out your name as evil, for the Son of man's sake.
Naw, it's all in the context...Sometimes hate means hate...
The nation of Israel was responsible for the OT, and...
the apostles wrote the NT.
The RCC "receives" the Word, just like all other Christians receive it.
Interesting. I heard an old British preacher explain the “...but Esau I hated” as “...but Esau I loved less”.
That's exactly what WhatNow is doing. It gallops toward taking the Lord's name in vain (if not arriving there fully lathered up, and panting, after a run).
Honest usage of profanity could be innocent in comparison.
Add to ping please.
One of my favorites on this:
Rom 9:13
As it is written, Jacob have I loved, but Esau have I hated.
Mal 1:3
And I hated Esau
How old was Esau when God spoke of him?
How many wicked sins had he committed, and how long had he been unrepentant?
Trick questions.
He was not yet even BORN.
Gen 25:23
And the LORD said unto her, Two nations are in thy womb, and two manner of people shall be separated from thy bowels; and the one people shall be stronger than the other people; and the elder shall serve the younger.
It was Gandhi not the Lord who said “love the sinner, hate the sin”.
HATE is being Godlike.
HATE!
Eph 4:26
Be ye angry, and sin not
Yet you went there today too, in recapping the other thread -- which invites dragging disagreement from thread to thread, which is prohibited on the religions forum. Read the rules. I sent you a link. You also "went there" in the chosen subject matter --- which was all about justifying your own "hatred" for the House Freedom Caucus (isn't it?) for them not having allowed themselves to be led to the slaughter...politically speaking,of course.
HA! That very thing, that very mixing of the two (plus your own "self") is what you opened the first, and this second thread with.
SO: keep it off the religion forum of FreeRepublic. Post it somewhere else.
Go see General Chat, or take it to Bloggers and Personal.
Religious issues can be talked about in mixture with "politics," and your own motivations (and self-justifying opinions) in those other forums ---better than as OP of a FR religion forum thread.
