Most comments on the universitys Facebook page suggest people are disappointed with the change. Some suggested new nicknames such as bellyachers or Snowflakes.

Alvernia University has dropped its Crusaders mascot, saying many have found it troublesome, even offensive. The correct response to anyone finding it troublesome or offensive is to educate them on the truth of the Crusades, not to bow down to popular (although incorrect) belief.

The new mascot should be a wolf, in honor of the wolf of Gubbio.

My alma mater went politically correct years ago. I loved the Crusader mascot, proud warrior. Now we’re the Sea Lions. No one is afraid of a Sea Lion.

We need more christian universities who aren’t ashamed of being “Crusaders”.
Because sometimes that is what we are called to be.

To their everlasting shame - intentional self inflicted ignorance of history. Those involved should be forced to rediscover their faith’s history or fired.

Many people find the crucifix offensive. How about removing the crucifix from Catholic schools?

Yes, most “catholic” colleges these days are troublesome and offensive. Crusaders, on the other hand, are not. But anything that has the whiff of a “Y” chromosome drives these people batty.
