“Im not sure where Janzen stands in my mind, but Hostage to the Devil was the most frightening book I ever read.”
The film is on Netflix. I haven’t finished it yet.
Martin was an interesting character. Educated in Biblical studies and Near Eastern languages and archeology at Louvain, Oxford, and Hebrew University of Jersusalem. With doctorate from Louvain, field work in archeology in Israel, and professor of Semitic languages at the prestigious Pontifcal Biblical Institute. He left Rome and the Jesuit order because of the heresy, if not apostasy and the evils of modernism he saw, and moved to New York City with pennies in his pocket. He drove a cab, washed dishes and did odd job to survive. He's almost like a movie character.
In his interviews during the last years of the his life, in the 1990's, he never deviated from promoting a very traditional, almost pre-Vatican II, devotion to the Catholic faith and tradition. And he never let up in warning about the perilous times we are living in, the rise of the demonic in the world, and the coming Chastisement. The Netflix documentary featured two guys who were close to Martin and worked with him. One a former CIA officer and the other a NYPD Sergeant. Martin had a profound influence on them and they are both traditional devout Catholics. The documentary is fascinating and I would urge you to listen to his interviews as well. You can find them at Internet Archive: Malachi Martin.
