Cairo (Agenzia Fides) - It will be the largest Coptic Church of Egypt, it will be inaugurated by 2018 in the new capital which is being built on the margin of Cairo's metropolis, and Egyptian President Abdel Fattah al Sisi will be among its direct sponsors.

The announcement of the project was given by the same al Sisi on the occasion of his participation in the Christmas liturgy in the Coptic Orthodox Cathedral in Cairo, celebrated by Patriarch Tawadros II.

Egyptian President said he had destined 100 thousand Egyptian pounds in the first funding initiative, which involves the construction at the same time of the largest mosque and the largest Egyptian Church in the ambitious urban project designed to create from nothing a new city where government and political institution offices will also be concentrated.

Instead of backing a Christian church like al Sisi, the Muslim Brotherhood would be systematically tearing them down.

He stands alone, fighting the good fight with no support from Obama.

Note that Sisi is now allied with Iran. Since he switched allegiance from the Saudis to the Iranians, he had been more pro-Copt

Interestingly, King Abdullah of Jordan has donated a considerable sum of money to the restoration project at the Church of the Holy Sepulchre in Jerusalem.

Americans should raise money for stained glass and art for this wonder. Trump should worship there when its done. What will it be named? May this construction help to heal the divisions within Egyptian society! God bless Egypt!

Evidence again that the only good Muslim is a “bad Muslim”.

There was quite a bit of controversy about Coptic Church members from Egypt visiting Israel last April

“Pope Tawadros II noted in press statements April 6, “We will not visit Jerusalem unless our Muslim brothers are with us. In the 1967 war and after the 1973 victory and the peace treaty as well as the church’s stance in this regard, the Holy Synod issued a ban on traveling to Jerusalem. This is when the idea of not visiting Jerusalem without our Muslim brothers was enrooted.”

The Coptic Church believes that Israel is an occupier of Jerusalem, and generally disputes Israel’s claim to Jerusalem as its capital.

We can celebrate the fact that Egypt will build a church in its new capital, but always need to realize that the church in Egypt is suffering under persecution, and in danger from the general Muslim population. The church there also does not recognize Israel, except as an occupier.

“I will bless those who bless you, and curse those who curse you” still applies. Woe to all nations at His return.
