Pray For the Peace of Jerusalem

The Book of Psalms

(Psalm 53)

Psalm 53[a]

For the director of music. According to mahalath.[b] A maskil[c] of David.

1 The fool says in his heart,
    “There is no God.”
They are corrupt, and their ways are vile;
    there is no one who does good.

2 God looks down from heaven
    on all mankind
to see if there are any who understand,
    any who seek God.
3 Everyone has turned away, all have become corrupt;
    there is no one who does good,
    not even one.

4 Do all these evildoers know nothing?

They devour my people as though eating bread;
    they never call on God.
5 But there they are, overwhelmed with dread,
    where there was nothing to dread.
God scattered the bones of those who attacked you;
    you put them to shame, for God despised them.

6 Oh, that salvation for Israel would come out of Zion!
    When God restores his people,
    let Jacob rejoice and Israel be glad!

We Pray For The Peace of Jerusalem,
According to Your Will and Promise.
We Pray For the People and Leaders of Israel,
that They Will Look to You for the Protection
and Prosperity of their Nation.
We Also Pray For Revival in our own Beloved USA.


We Pray For The Swift and Sure Coming of Messiah,

Pray For the Peace of Jerusalem

There is an apocryphal story about a judge declaring April 1st as "National Atheist Day" because of this Psalm. However, I don't think that the "Fool" in this Psalm is of the comic variety like a jester, or even of someone who is mentally deficient. The "Fool" of Psalms may have all his mental faculties, but is still a fool because he denies God. The context goes further, describing, not a cognitive deficit, but a huge deficit in MORALITY and ETHICS. When otherwise clever and intelligent people attempt to base their ethics upon their own righteousness, they end up failing. We have many examples of do-good organizations that start out with fine noble intentions, but eventually become corrupt and exploitative. Even the admirable cause of Stewardship over the Earth's resources has become a corrupt money-making scam that falsifies data, lies about the climate, and destroys businesses and lives. The same could be said about "Peace Movements" or even "Human Rights" movements. Peace is good, and so is Equality, Conservation, Frugality, and Brotherly Love. But without God, these are empty efforts that eventually morph into a form of organized crime. (Just my opinion...but backed up by this Powerful Psalm!)
