.- While he was in town for a global meeting on the crisis in the Mediterranean region, U.S. Secretary of State John Kerry stopped by the Vatican for a meeting with Pope Francis that likely centered largely on the challenges of migration.
Kerry is currently in Rome for the three-day Rome Med Mediterranean Dialogues meeting, which this year runs Dec. 1-3. The second annual event is a high-level initiative of the Italian Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, as well as the Italian Institute for International Political Studies (ISPI).
The main purpose of the gathering is to draft a positive agenda for the Mediterranean region given the current challenges by coming up with new ideas and rethinking traditional approaches at both the local and international levels.
According to the website, this years meeting will focus on how the Mediterranean has increasingly become the epicenter of international disorder, and seems to now be synonymous with conflict, instability, terrorism and mass migration.
A description of the meeting, titled Beyond Turmoil. A Positive Agenda, said leaders are called upon to define a long-term, comprehensive strategy to stabilize the region: this should become Europes new historic mission.
The first priority they highlighted was the defeat of Daesh (ISIS) and of violent extremism, while another goal is to look beyond the mayhem and imagine a new regional order, built through diplomacy, ownership, resilience, partnership, governance and co-development.
When looking to the Mediterranean, the meeting description emphasized, it is important to see not just an area of crisis and instability, but also opportunities for Europes future which must be discussed and clarified in a positive agenda for the entire region, including Africa.
Filled with various meetings and workshops, the Rome Med meeting is set on four pillars: Shared Prosperity, Shared Security, Migration, Media, and Culture and Society.
More than 500 leaders from 55 nations around the world are present for the event, including nations such as Qatar, Saudi Arabia, Germany, Tunisia, Spain, Syria, Belgium, Sudan, Iran, Lebanon, Nigeria, France, Algeria, Libya, Egypt, China, Turkey and the UK, among others.
During his visit, Kerry also met with the Vatican Secretary of State, Cardinal Pietro Parolin and Secretary for Relations with the States, Archbishop Paul Gallagher.
The last time Kerry visited the Vatican was Jan. 14, 2014, ahead of the Popes trip to the United States. He had been on an international diplomatic tour to promote an Israeli-Palestinian peace accord and was also working for the success of the Geneva 2 Conference for peace in Syria.
Kerrys meeting with Francis at the time focused largely on the Middle East, the Syrian conflict, the Sudan situation and religious freedom issues in the U.S.
He’s not my favorite Pope but dignitaries meet with Pope all the time.I had a friend who would get a private audience with St John Paul 11 all the time.He told me you have to have information. If you have information you get in.When your information runs out you don’t get in.
Prayers for the prompt election of a genuinely young, healthy, utterly Catholic, warrior COMMITTED at election and until his death many years later to purging those who have no business calling themselves CATHOLIC much less calling himself pope are what I pray. We don't have to pray out loud. How do YOU know what oters are praying for?
Frankie can convert to Catholicism if he can swallow his infernal pride. I don't care one way or another. He would not be the first pope in hell and nothing insulates him from his just desserts other than his own stubborn evil. In any event, as far as I am concerned, this Bergoglio creature does not exist. The sooner we have a CATHOLIC pope again the better by whatever means necessary.
To be a Catholic does not require one to be a spineless mushball praying for enemies of the Faith.
What's next? Sainthood for Ted Kennedy. Shouldn't "most Catholics" have a "charitable" attitude as to Mary Jo's killer? After all he was the perfect Frankie the Apostate "Catholic," sponsoring ruinous immigration legislation and supporting (often initiating) every hare-brained Marxist scheme to be introduced in Congress in his time. Old St. Ted did not much care for Tridentine anything in his rare moments of sobriety or otherwise. Also, wanting as much sexuality on his own terms as he did, St. Ted wasn't one to use his status in life to interfere with "same sex" anything or baby-killing or to promote sobriety or piety. As a "Catholic," old St. Ted also was certainly not going to uphold the marriage standards of the Church or the denial of the Holy Eucharist to those divorced (without benefit of annulment which is no big hurdle nowadays) and remarried and notoriously living in sin.
I note that, as usual, my inquiry over why you are a fanboy for Frankie the Apostate, having been such a vitriolic enemy of St. John Paul the Great goes understandably unanswered. Of course, Saint John Paul excommunicated the SSPX leadership (deservedly). Once disobedience to an actually CATHOLIC pope is calmly accepted, disobedience is a way of life. That cannot be tolerated as Marcel the schismatic now well knows and, in truth KNEW before he departed this veil of tears for an even more unpleasant and eternal location. Frankie the Apostate, OTOH, likely views the pretensions of SSPX as downright silly and worthy of little "papal" attention other for their extraordinary attempts to divide Holy Mother the Church via their infernal mouths expressing the product of their infernal minds. In that, they are his allies.
