The most senior Chinese Catholic has slammed a potential rapprochement between the Vatican and Beijing, saying it would be betraying Jesus Christ, amid a thaw in more than six decades of bitter relations.
Talk of a deal between the two sides has been building for months, with some saying the diplomatic coup for Pope Francis would be resolving the highly controversial issue of allowing Chinas Communist government to have a hand in selecting bishops.
But Cardinal Joseph Zen, the 84-year-old former bishop of Hong Kong, has been an outspoken critic, saying any agreement where Beijing would have a hand in approving clergy would be a surrender.
Maybe the pope is a little naive, he doesnt have the background to know the Communists in China, Zen said at the Salesian school in Hong Kong where he still teaches. The pope used to know the persecuted Communists [in Latin America], but he may not know the Communist persecutors who have killed hundreds of thousands.

Not sure this current Pope has Christ as a top priority.
I have to wonder how many voting members of The College of Cardinals are happy with their choice of Pope Francis and how many realize they screwed up.
Betrayal is a strong word...but the Chicoms would accept nothing less before signing any kind of agreement.
This Pope sucks.
It’s not a “thaw.” It’s a betrayal and surrender.
Well, the fake Pope has already betrayed Catholic tradition and teaching so betraying Christ is just another step in the direction he’s already heading.
He’s a Marxist, for Pete’s sake, he’s going to favor communists.
everybody wants that Chinese money. Everybody.
Bergoglio has been denying Christ weekly.
Big time.
Would this Pope allow the return of the veto to the Holy Roman Emperor? Of course not. Would this Pope hand a veto to the Communist Dictator of China? Of course. Frightening, isn’t it?
“he doesnt have the background to know the Communists”
But communists have the “hearts of Christians.”
Excellent point!
This Pope has stated that, "It is the Communists who think like Christian!"
By this rule he has also proclaimed its inevitable corollary, that "Those who do not think like Communist do not think like Christians!"
Like Obama who seeks to repopulate America with non-American foreigners/invaders, Francis seeks to repopulate the Catholic Church with non-Christians Communists/Socialists. And both have sought to completely disenfranchise those who oppose their radical transformation.
unbelievable....these truly are the dark ages...
This dipstick pap is rendering unto caesar what is God’s.
Christians in general and Catholics in particular have been suffering in China since Mao. The problem is that China decided to make a fake Catholic Church and to sell it as authentic, just as the US Post Office is trying to sell Kwanza with their lame stamps. Pope John Paul II always saw the deception and secretly supported the original Catholics in China who are very admirable.
Pope John Paul II is JP the Great while Pope Francis is an empty suit with hallmark-card-like advice.
Presently there are 1,500 new Evangelical Christians from China are doing their best to evangelize in Muslim countries, such as Pakistan, since hey have an inside track in Muslim countries with their markets. Nice.

“The most senior Chinese Catholic has slammed a potential rapprochement between the Vatican and Beijing, saying it would be betraying Jesus Christ”
I am sad to say that Cardinal Zen is correct.
Pope Francis believes in Communism and totalitarianism, . Pope Francis does not believe in Jesus Christ. Pope Francis has continually betrayed the Catholic Church and faithful Catholics.
Pope Francis is not a Catholic.
He is an evil man.
Is there anyone who disagrees?
Then "Pope" Francis is not pope.
Then “Pope” Francis is not pope.
I do not believe Francis is a Pope in any sense other than having the title.
Francis does not follow the teachings of Jesus Christ.
