My brother’s in-laws are Irish Expats. They are fairly disgusted whenever they return home. In their opinion joining the EU has dragged Ireland down the moral sewer.

Oh Well, the Scotland of John Knox used to be one of the most reformed Protestant countries in the world and now it is an even worse post-modern secular pit.
