I read somewhere that there were some noble Bereans that JUDGED what they were TOLD against what the SCRIPTURES said.

It seems translating the Word into the language of the common people sort of put a dent in the indulgent cash flow; and, temporarily, thined the walls of the hierarchical termite mound out a bit.

Hence the Jesuit response - and Ignatius being immortalized in stone with his Fallible and Uninspired foot assuming dominion on Martin Luther's reformed neck:
