Lesbian Sues Paramus Catholic School Over Firing After Gay Marriage

PARAMUS, New Jersey --A woman is suing a Roman Catholic school in New Jersey, alleging the school violated the state's discrimination law when she was fired because she's married to a woman.

Kate Drumgoole and her wife say, they never asked for this, but on Friday, they found themselves in court defending their right to move forward with the case. It is emotional, and one of dozens that has emerged after the legalization of same-sex marriage.

"We did nothing but fall in love with each other and exercise our rights," she said.

And yet, she lost her job at Paramus Catholic High School over it. Drumgoole, an alum, had worked her way up the ladder for years to become dean of the guidance department and head coach of the women's basketball team.

"I was brought in, called in for a meeting on a snow day actually, and given a letter saying that I was terminated immediately," she said.

It was because of her marriage two years earlier to her longtime partner, Jaclyn Vanore.

"I believe that you need to keep your private life private, particularly when you work with adolescents," she said. "So I never brought it to the workplace."

But Vancore said her sister who posted pictures on social media, against their wishes, that had devastating consequences back in January. In Superior Court Friday, an attorney for Paramus Catholic insisted the school was well within its First Amendment religious rights to fire Drumgoole.

"There's no denying the fact that Mrs. Drumgoole has engaged in a lifestyle, in a manner that is inconsistent with the tenets of the Catholic faith," attorney Christopher Westrick said.

Westrick said his clients didn't violate the state's anti-discrimination law because it allows churches to require their workers to abide by the tenets of the Catholic...........

And next they will sue because they won’t be welcome at certain events at the school. Will she sue when the priest refuses her communion? It never ends. there is no logical limit for these folks.

I don’t have a huge problem with lesbians pretending they are married, no more than when little girls pretend they are princesses or dragons. I have a gigantic problem with evil thugs using predatory lawsuits to attempt to suppress our individual, God-given right to the free exercise of religion. The women filing this lawsuit are reprehensible and disgusting.

NJ is in fact an “at will” state, so that should help to the extent that the judge follows state law - always a concern with liberals.

That doesn’t prevent the civil rights laws from applying. Most jobs in the US are “at will” arrangements. This is a thorny issue because of the First Amendment overlay. I predict that the lesbian couple will win. The issue may eventually go to the Supreme Court.

This is true, but she was "singled out" for a defensible, rational reason. It's this: marriage is a formal public act, and so it constitutes an objective fact and NOT a personal judgment (the kind of subjective judgment Christians are not supposed to do.)

Because marriage is an overt declaration predicated on a contract or license (a legal state), it is actually more just to fire a person for "gay marriage" than for reputedly cohabiting with a romantically/sexually involved sweetie.

They shouldn’t win because extremely lifestyles should not have the right to be expose these issues to young minds that can get confused.

I long ago also wondered about gay adoption.
Is it a great supplement for children needing a home or do such homes produce from them a larger number of kids who think they are gay compared to the regular population at large.

Are we at the point yet where that question gets answered since statistically way more gays try to commit suicide compared to regular the population?

NJ is in fact an “at will” state, so that should help to the extent that the judge follows state law - always a concern with liberals.

However,that might not be particularly helpful in *Federal* court.

It seems to me that the lion’s share, if not all, of the predatory activity by the homosexuals is targeted on Catholics or the Catholic Church itself.

This tells me the Catholic Church is truly the one that Jesus said that ‘upon this rock I will build my Church...’, and explains why satan’s fools are looking to take them out.

However, we are also told “...the gates of hell shall not prevail against it.”.

eresting how the Left is using anti-discrimination laws and hate crime legislation to undermine Constitutional principles and our nation's morals. This isn't by accident and it does show how they engage in long-term planning while we react late and in an uncoordinated effort.

I will give you a example from experience. In the late 1970s I was in college and an active Libertarian. At one point we made coalition with a number of other groups over some public issue. At a strategy meeting a member of the Socialist Workers Party (Trotskyites) made mention of disallowing "hate speech". That was the first time I heard the term. Now, about 40 some odd years later, "hate" as a additional charge is a part of much of our criminal law.

Lefties are like termites and produce much of the same destruction as do the insects.

If the Catholic school in question was teaching students about 10th Amendment-protected state powers versus constitutionally enumerated rights as it should be doing, then perhaps the misguided, low-information lesbian woman in question might have though twice about suing the school for the following reason.

Regarding state anti-discrimination laws, the corrupt, pro-LGBT media never mentions the following about such laws. Not only have the states never amended the Constitution to expressly protect so-called politically correct LGBT “rights” as the Founding States had carefully done with the rights expressly protected by the Bill of Rights, fictitious constitutional LGBT “rights” now wrongly being legislated from the bench by pro-LGBT activist judges and justices, but also consider the following.

The states prohibited themselves from making laws which abridge constitutionally enumerated rights, 1st Amendment-protected religious expression and free speech in this case. This protection is evidenced by Section 1 of the 14th Amendment, NJ's discrimination law probably a good example of such a prohibited law imo.

14th Amendment, Section 1: All persons born or naturalized in the United States, and subject to the jurisdiction thereof, are citizens of the United States and of the State wherein they reside. No State shall make or enforce any law which shall abridge the privileges or immunities of citizens of the United States [emphasis added]; nor shall any State deprive any person of life, liberty, or property, without due process of law; nor deny to any person within its jurisdiction the equal protection of the laws.

Yeah, but gates aren't offensive weapons. They keep things in or keep things out. Jesus (who IS the rock) was telling His disciples that the gospel they would preach to all the world would be able to break down the very gates of hell/hades. That the gates would not be able to resist or prevail against the truth.

ALL of Christianity is under attack - don't kid yourself.

Is a parochial school a public accomodation?

In other words, is it a church-run educational institution, or merely a government school that happens to be administered by church personnel?

If the former, they should have the right to fire her as a bad example for the students, by their beliefs. If the latter, she stays.

I vote for a), and the US has always voted for a). In totalitarian countries, the state always has the last word on education... and on everything else. THe Dems always want “The Party” line, whatever it may be at the moment, to be the last word.

I do not dispute that, just that I don’t see the homosexual mafia targeting anyone except the Catholics, Catholic schools, or the Catholic Church.

Since all things LGBTQ originate from the pits of hell, this tells me that the Catholic Church is ground zero for satan.

It follows, then, that the Catholic Church must be the one true Apostolic Church with Peter the first Pope, that Jesus began some 2000 years ago.

They need to look into this cafeteria Catholics history at the school in relation to being the girl’s basketball coach. I guarantee she was hired on years ago without telling the school she was not living her life according to the faith, as in being an open lesbian. Let them interview some of the former basketball players. 10 to 1 says they’ll come out of the woodwork and say they were sexually abused by this dyke, who’s now “married” and “settled down”. The school had every right to fire her and many others have been fired for the same reasons and the Supreme Court has affirmed the rights of private schools to set their own hiring and firing standards.
