1. Scripture itself depends on Tradition (which means (handing on.) Specifically, Scripture was sourced from Oral Tradition.

Izzat so?

I'm still waiting for the list of traditions that is going to trump all the verses about being WRITTEN.

Scripture itself never tells us it is "all" we need.

Oh; but it DOES!

2 Peter 1:3
His divine power has given us everything we need for a godly life through our knowledge of him who called us by his own glory and goodness.

He wouldn't have said, over and OVER again, "drink My blood.".

You'd have NO problem with this if you hadn't been 'taught' that this is LITERAL instead of figurative.

” Is it too much to ask you again to define the word obtain?

Yes.

I’ve no interest in falling into rabbit holes or chasing red herrings.

The subject is how Mary OBTAINED her super powers: ones that ONLY God should possess. “

Sorry to hear that Elsie because it means you cannot have a True seeking conversation because Your own words cannot be defined. When you wish to have a True Heart to Heart conversation please let me know.

God Bless

Mrs. Don-o something I wrote that is fitting here in this thread because at the center of it is the prayer for Intersession of the Saints of which Mary is one very important one, the Mother of our Lord and the one whom freely submitted to the Holy spirit.

For those whom struggle with the prays for intersession from Saints in Heaven with our Lord.

Do you understand the Hell you are aspiring to? The Heaven I am aspiring to, will have the Saints present with the Lord of the Living. They are in Communion with Our Lord and we are in Communion with them both or so we should be striving to be. Do you really think the Lord of the living, whom has assigned special missions and function to his Children would Ignore their wishes? Do you think those Saints would ask for things of our Lord that would hurt Him? No they are as if One with the Lord which is why it is call Communion with him. How is it you visualize a Heaven where your Lord is a Dictator caring not for his Children wishes and doing everything himself, which is contrary to the Scriptures you read, for his Angels and Saint do have functions, missions, and authority he assigns them? Know then the heaven you contemplate and ascribe to is actually a description of Hell. As for me and My family, the One Holy Catholic and Apostolic Church, we will continue to do our best to be in Communion (Unity) with Our Lord and his Saints in Heaven. Please before your time is up in this world is up, return to Our Lord and his Children, your brethren.

God Bless

The "crowd" had a problem with it, too, as I recall.

Instead of sprinting after them and yelling, "Whoa, waitaminnit! It's a metaphor, only a metaphor!!" he doubled down. He turned to His disciples and asked, "Will you leave, too?"

2 Peter 1:3
"His divine power has given us everything we need for a godly life through our knowledge of him who called us by his own glory and goodness."

This, too, does not say "Sola Scriptura."

It doesn't say anything about "sola" ^OR^ "Scriptura."

By "everything" He has "given" us, it logically must include the authority of the Church, and Sacred Tradition, since Scripture itself came to us via the authority of the Church, and Sacred Tradition.

Or do you think it fell down from Heaven leather-bound, in Gothic lettering and gold leaf, round about 1517 or so?

(I'm just teasin' you...)

2 Timothy 3:16-17 does however tell us Scripture is sufficient for all you claim.

I always find it interesting that catholics seem to completely ignore Romans 8:26-27 and the way the Holy Spirit intercedes for us in a way we cannot understand.

26In the same way the Spirit also helps our weakness; for we do not know how to pray as we should, but the Spirit Himself intercedes for us with groanings too deep for words; 27and He who searches the hearts knows what the mind of the Spirit is, because He intercedes for the saints according to the will of God.

The Greek behind this really conveys the deep personal aspect of the Holy Spirit's involvement on our behalf through these prayers for us....and they never stop....ever.

Yet the catholic, in more than one writing not found in the Word, is told to completely rely upon Mary as their primary intercessor. In fact, some catholics want to institute a fifth Marian dogma that would declare Mary to be Advocate, Co-Redemtrix and Mediatrix seemingly replacing the Holy Spirit and Christ.

In practically every thread on this topic the catholic advocates turning to Mary as their primary intercessor. I do not recall where I've ever heard a catholic give as much praise or thanksgiving to the work of the Holy Spirit in our lives.

As a member of a charismatic prayer group and a small group leader in several Life in the Spirit seminars, I have become very devoted to the Holy Spirit. Romans 8 has a special place in my heart.

A song we love to sing in our Fire in the Spirit prayer group.

Another favorite song

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=G0_B0DpTbUI

This song was written as the dedication song for the church I attend, Holy Spirit Catholic Church.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=o85uvLigVrM

A favorite prayer:

Come Holy Spirit, fill the hearts of your faithful and kindle in them the fire of your love.

Send forth your Spirit and they shall be created.
And You shall renew the face of the earth.

O, God, who by the light of the Holy Spirit, did instruct the hearts of the faithful, grant that by the same Holy Spirit we may be truly wise and ever rejoice in His consolation, Through Christ Our Lord, Amen.

The Bible tells me so.

Mary tells you something entirely different:

"The Most Holy Virgin in these last times in which we live has given a new efficacy to the recitation of the Rosary to such an extent that there is no problem,

no matter how difficult it is, wheter temporal or above all spiritual, in the personal life of each one of us, of our families...that cannot be solved by the Rosary.

There is no problem, I tell you, no matter how difficult it is, that we cannot resolve by the prayer of the Holy Rosary."

Sister Lucia dos Santos

The 15 promises

(Given to St. Dominic and Blessed Alan de la Roche)

1 Whoever shall faithfully serve me by the recitation of the Rosary, shall receive powerful graces.
2. I promise my special protection and the greatest graces to all those who shall recite the Rosary.
3. The Rosary shall be a powerful armor against hell, it will destroy vice, decrease sin, and defeat heresies
4. It will cause virtue and good works to flourish; it will obtain for souls the abundant mercy of God; it will withdraw the hearts of people from the love of the world and its vanities, and will lift them to the desire of eternal things. Oh, that souls would sanctify themselves by this means.
5. The soul which recommends itself to me by the recitation of the Rosary, shall not perish.
6. Whoever shall recite the Rosary devoutly, applying Himself to the consideration of its Sacred Mysteries shall never be conquered by misfortune. God will not chastise Him in His justice, he shall not perish by an unprovided death; if he be just, he shall remain in the grace of God, and become worthy of eternal life.
7. Whoever shall have a true devotion for the Rosary shall not die without the Sacraments of the Church.
8. Those who are faithful to recite the Rosary shall have during their life and at their death the light of God and the plentitude of His graces; at the moment of death they shall participate in the merits of the Saints in Paradise.
9. I  shall deliver from purgatory those who have been devoted to the Rosary.
10. The faithful children of the Rosary shall merit a high degree of glory in Heaven.
11. You shall obtain all you ask of me by the recitation of the Rosary.
12. All those who propagate the Holy Rosary shall be aided by me in their necessities.
13. I  have obtained from my Divine Son that all the advocates of the Rosary shall have for intercessors the entire celestial court during their life and at the hour of death
14. All who recite the Rosary are my children, and brothers and sisters of my only Son, Jesus Christ.
15. Devotion of my Rosary is a great sign of predestination.

Sorry to hear that Elsie because it means you cannot have a True seeking conversation because Your own words cannot be defined.

Glad to know you are unwilling to even TRY to defend the Super Powers claimed for Rome's Mary.

Perhaps another Catholic; more willing (or able) than yourself; will try to explain it.

And the ones who stayed; did they jump for joy and stick a fork into Jesus?

No.

One of them famously said:

"To whom would we go?

Only YOU have the WORDS of eternal life."

Ealgeone, simple answer, see post 25 from myself, “All Prayers, end game are to God,”

Understand Catholics believe in the Trinity, IE the Holy Spirit is one with God and our Lord Jesus (same and separate), Thus the Holy Spirit is addressed in Prayers whether by Name or by Implication.

Tsk. A rough jest, Elsie.

A little context. At the Last Suppe. Jesus took the bread in His sacred hands and said Take and eat. This is my Body." The Apostles didn't shrug and say, "No, not really."

Nice try but not buying. Catholics pray specifically to Mary. Some Catholic writings even push the position that if Christ isn't answering your prayer go to Mary to it answered. That does not support your position.

I continue to notice Catholics get very evasive when called on these facts.
