I used to think that women as priests or deacons was a good idea. Then, I looked at what has happened to the Episcopal Church since they have done that exact thing. Nope. Don't do it.

However, if it undermines the Catholic Church in some way, I am sure this particular Pope will do it.

It would be world-changing in the sense that ordaining women (which is what women deacons would mean) would lead to a schism. You would see cardinals and bishops openly opposing this, there would be purges, etc... It would be the biggest smash-up in Catholicism in I don’t know how many centuries.

The ancient office of Deaconess was absolutely *NOT* equivalent to a “female Deacon.” The only point to this office now, especially in the West, is as a prelude to ordaining priestesses.
