(Vatican Radio) Pope Francis has decided to scrap a previously scheduled official discourse to Polish bishops on the first day of his apostolic journey to Poland, in favour of a private encounter with them during which the Pope and the bishops will be able to listen to each other and converse in total freedom.
Speaking to Vatican Radio, Father Federico Lombardi SJ, Director of the Holy See Press Office, explained that the Pope wants the occasion to be as spontaneous and authentic as possible: a moment in which the bishops and the Pope will be at ease and free to exchange opinions and ask questions.
Lombardi pointed out that in fact there have been no real changes to the schedule; rather, he said, the Pope has made it clear that the formula he prefers in these occasions and it is the one he has most often resorted to during his apostolic journeys is that of a familiar encounter and of dialogue.
Thus, Lombardi said, Pope Francis has no intention of addressing the bishops with a grand speech: he wants to talk to them, listen to what they have to say and possibly answer the questions they will be asking in a climate of absolute serenity.
This is the reason, he explained, it has been decided there will be no live television broadcast of the event which will be conducted in a fraternal atmosphere.
Lombardi also recalled that the Pope made exactly the same choice during his visits to the United States, to Mexico, to the African and Latin American countries he visited, when he was in Cuba and even when speaking to his brothers of the Italian Episcopal Conference.
Finally, Lombardi pointed out: it is not that he is afraid of the media; that we know for sure!

The Poles have been in the forefront of the resistance to Communion for the divorced and civilly remarried and aren't too keen on Muslim immigration either. I suspect Francis will read the riot act.

Bet you’re right. Bet also the Pope doesn’t want any of his heresy and bullying committed to print. God save the Church from this man.
What I noticed is 3 weeks ago, Obama was trashing Poland for some nonsensical reason.
Poland is the last conservative country in the EU
Francis and Obama want to change that.
Post #1 ~ I suspect Francis will read the riot act. ~
Coin toss, IMHO. You may be right, of course - but I’m hoping he now sees how divisive he has been; and MIGHT try to reconcile with the Bishops...
Frances doesn’t want people to know just how much opposition he is facing.
After years of careful planning, the left infiltrated the church to the highest levels and now have their anti-pope to bring the church down once and for all. I would put money that this pope is selling altar boys to Afghani mullahs for their enjoyment as dancing boys
"Dlaczego jesteś bezbożny communsit ?"
Well, it’s a two way street, and I doubt that members of the Polish Catholic hierarchy will be willing to put up with any of the Pope’s BS. Traditional Catholics are sick and tired of his absurd and never-ending pronouncements. Finally after more than three years of Francis’ trashing of 2,000 years of beliefs and practices, Catholics at all levels are speaking out.
You’re really into losing money, I guess.
I’ll take that bet and give you points.
I’m curious. Just which of the 2000 years of Latin church practices is this Pope trashing?
Please ping me to your answer to Kolokotronis, Thank you.
Exactly.
Polish Bishops Conference rejects Holy Communion for divorced and remarried
I’m speaking only for myself:
1) This pope has denied the existence of hell. Instead souls not worthy of salvation are just “annihilated”.
2) He opened the door to giving Holy Communion to unrepentant adulterers and non-Catholics.
3) He has opined that the Blessed Mother, conceived without sin, may have despaired and questioned God. He has said Jesus pretended to be angry with the money changers in the temple.
4) He has cast doubt on the miracle of the multiplication of the loaves and fishes. Instead, like a true socialist, he has suggested it was just a matter of “sharing”.
I could go on.
Got a cite for #1? That’s an odd one. #2 was a practice of the early Latin church, up to about the 7th century, much, much later for priests in “irregular” relationships . #3 is roughly consistent with the theology of St. John Chrysostomos. Finally, got a cite for #4?
1) It was an interview with Francis that was posted twice on the Vatican’s official website, both for months at a time until being removed due to outrage.
2)I’m not surprised that an orthodox is in favor of Holy Communion to adulterers in second marriages and will find whatever means he can to defend it. Two wrongs don’t make a right.
3)Since when are saints infallible?
It's been recycled through other humor and satire sites, inluding the "Entertainment" section of VacancyNigerians.com.
shall we say, Then it got picked up by --- other parties who should have known better --- who didn't fact-check it, but ran it s eye-popping, click-baiting straight news. ("Too good to verify" as Fan Rather might say.)
I do not deny that Pope Francis has said a lot of perplexing and dubious things, but always by way of elision and equivocation --- these are bad enough. Ambiguity, confusion, and insinuation are dangerous to the faith and aggravating as all hell. But they are not positive statements of doctrinal heresy.
You don’t know what you’re talking about. Bergoglio granted an interview to an atheist editor where Bergoglio denied the existence of Hell. It was posted, after Bergoglio’s personal review, twice on the Vatican’s website before finally being removed with no explanation.
Don’t you dare imply I’m quoting the resources you that you claim in your post.
I understand that the Immaculate Conception is now dogma and that for centuries the Latin Church has not knowingly countenanced communion for divorced and remarried people...but neither of those positions are 2000 years old. Things change, and change back. My point is that the history of The Church in the West, theologically and ecclesiologically, is complex and saying that this pope is trampling on 2000 year old praxis or belief is a stretch to say the least.
