PROVIDENCE, Rhode Island, July 25, 2016 (LifeSiteNews) A Catholic bishop has criticized Democratic vice presidential nominee Senator Tim Kaine for touting his self-proclaimed Catholic faith while publicly supporting abortion, same-sex marriage, and same-sex adoptions.
Democratic VP choice, Tim Kaine, has been widely identified as a Roman Catholic, Bishop Thomas J. Tobin of Providence, Rhode Island wrote on Facebook. It is also reported that he publicly supports freedom of choice for abortion, same-sex marriage, gay adoptions, and the ordination of women as priests. All of these positions are clearly contrary to well-established Catholic teachings; all of them have been opposed by Pope Francis as well.
Senator Kaine has said, My faith is central to everything I do, Tobin continued. But apparently, and unfortunately, his faith isnt central to his public, political life.
Kaine has described himself as a traditional Catholic who believes the Churchs teaching that abortion is morally wrong, but one who believes the right rule for government is to let women make their own decisions.
We dont need to make peoples reproductive decisions for them, he has said.
The Catechism of the Catholic Church is clear, however, that abortion is a form of murder. It states: Human life must be respected and protected absolutely from the moment of conception. From the first moment of his existence, a human being must be recognized as having the rights of a person - among which is the inviolable right of every innocent being to life.
Kaine has emphasized his support for Roe v. Wade and is a co-sponsor of a bill that would dismantle pro-life laws across the country. He has a perfect pro-abortion voting record in the Senate.
I despise politicians regardless of party who profess to be Christians but govern as pagans.
My guess would be probably not central to his private life either!
No, he is of the “I am personally opposed to abortion, but...” garden variety of heretics. According to him, his faith pertains only to his personal private life. Too bad that’s not how professing the true faith really works.
ROFL.... This man is either completely ignorant as to what this means or he is delusional.

or a liar...
or a career politician...
This is the ongoing scandal of the Church in the US. The Church presents a fractured, disunited front on important moral issues. One isolated bishop (such as Tobin) will say or do the right thing but the majority will remain silent or even wink at the miscreants who understand that it's not really that big a deal.
What a rabble the US episcopate truly is.
The Archdiocese of Washington falls under Wuerl, probably the most liberal bishop in the United States.
Aren’t those last two the same thing?
Kaine’s bishop is actually Bp. Francis X. DiLorenzo in Richmond. Career seems to have specialized in non-controversial issues. Last seen silently hiding under his desk.
I don't see how he can justify calling himself a devoted, traditional Catholic while supporting taxpayer funded abortion on demand. He is a government agent who can DIRECTLY determine if abortion laws remain the same. It was politicians who passed the laws we have in this country and they can certainly influence whether or not they change or become MORE lenient than they are now - though I can't see how much more loose they can get.
Does his bishop have any influence over him? Is it not within the authority of his church to discipline and punish him for the public stands he makes? How is he any different than Nancy Pelosi, John Kerry, the Kennedys or any other self-professed, prochoice Catholics? What good is it to have strictures against abortion as a strong public stance in the Catholic church when those who are in a position to actually change the laws proudly identify as Catholics while thumbing their noses at the "rules"? Where is his accountability?
