Concern Grows for Christians in Turkey After Failed Coup
Christianity Today ^ | 7/20/16 | Ruth Gledhill

Concerns are growing for the future of Christians in Turkey, the birthplace of St Paul, in the wake of the failed coup.

Two churches in eastern Turkey in places already known for historic murders of Christians were vandalised during the attempted coup, reports Middle East Concern.

In Trabzon on the Black Sea, ten people attacked the Catholic church of Santa Maria where Catholic priest Father Andrea Santoro was murdered in 2006. Muslim neighbours intervened and drove them away.

In Malatya, where three Christian workers were murdered in 2007, there was an attempt to smash the windows of the Protestant Church.

Canon Ian Sherwood, Anglican chaplain of the British consulate in Istanbul, is calling for Turkey's President Erdoğan to respect human rights and champion the rights of Christians. "As long-centuries established Christians in Turkey we are alarmed at how life is evolving in Turkey," Sherwood told The Spectator. He warns of a rising undercurrent of intolerance towards Christians and other non-Muslims and says many indigenous Christians are now trying to flee Turkey.

"Bear in mind we've had a Roman Catholic Bishop murdered, we've had clergy threatened, we've had one priest murdered 10 years ago. Any Christian leader, if they're being honest, would say that some of what's going on is quite alarming."

A century ago, as many as one in four Turks were Christian but at least 1.5 million were slaughtered in the Armenian genocide of the First World War alone. Today there are barely 250,000 Christians, fewer than one per cent of the population, with the largest number being Orthodox. Most Turks are Sunni Muslims.

Let’s arrange an air lift and get them out. Now.

Erdogan will be busy consolidating power for several months.

But eventually he will need to start feeding meat to his beasts.

Time for Turks (especially non-muslims) to start sheltering their assets outside the country, and readying escape plans.

We don’t know who planned the coup, do we?

Great idea but Obama would claim religious favoritism. He’d want 99% Muslims from somewhere to make up for the 1% of those poor souls left over from the incipient Caliphate. Same with Hellary.Stakes are high. Cruz would prefer to cry about his personal issues like a baby instead of caring about these issues though.

Well, the black Mohammaden dog Erdogan can sleep easy. That man Trump is vocal in his support of the Islamist monster and his policies!

A century ago, as many as one in four Turks were Christian
**********
A century ago, it would have been impossible for ANY Turks to be Christian, since they would have been executed for apostasy. However, one of four people living in Asia Minor ("Turkey" now) were Christian, because they were NOT Turks and were able to hold on to their faith.

The Armenians can tell you all about the Turks.

Erdog said in the last few days that what Turkey did to the Armenians was good and necessary, for “national security”, and he’d do it again, and the “coup” supporters are even more dangerous.

Killing fields, straight ahead.

Before Erdoğan Turkey was a great tourist destination especially for Christians. There's more New Testaments sites in Turkey than in Israel.

Seven churches of Revelation. And the people were friendly and hospitable. Turkey.

Colossae. Turkey.

Galatia. Turkey.

Troas, Miletus, Assos, Cappadocia, Iconium, Derbem Lystra, Antioch. All Turkey.

This Islamic fundamentalism will certainly curtail such trips and spending. Hopefully the sites won't be destroyed.

During a day in Istanbul last November, a carpet salesman lamented the lack of Americans. I told him they won't come as long as Turkey supports Daesh and is dangerous to visit.

While I’m more sympathetic to the Christians, I think the very first target will be ANY military age Syrian transient/vagrant that is on the street and not in a refugee camp. Freelancers will walk out of Friday prayers tomorrow and go straight for these people with blood lust.

News outlets are saying this will worsen the migrant crisis, I tend to think the opposite -the Turks will have absolutely no mercy for non citizens that are already seen as a nuisance.
