Pro-Government Mobs Attack Religious Minorities in Turkey

Pro-government mob groups attack religious in the aftermath of the attempted coup in Turkey, a democratic watchdog reports.

Reportedly, in some cases Muslim citizens reacted against the mobs to protect their fellow citizens.

The attacks by Islamist mobs begun on Saturday evening, that is, the evening after the attempted coup had been averted.

Attacks were reported at the Catholic Church of Santa Maria in Trabzon; a second attacks was reported on a Protestant Church in Malatya.

In Trabzon a mob of 10 people attacked the Catholic Church, throwing stones drawn from the pavement. The mob also carried sledge hummers. Fortunately, neighbours had warned the priest of the expected attack. Father Andrea Santoro was killed by another mob in this Church in February 2006.

In Malatya too, the mob attacked the Protestant Church with stones and hammers, trying to enter the building.

Mobs also attacked neighbourhoods of the Alevi Muslim religious minority in Malatya. The police in these cases opened warning shots to disperse the crowd and the mob retreated. Eventually, the police set up barricades in front of neighbourhoods to contain the situation.

Tolerant Muslims at it again. Nobody is allowed to question the violence that is committed daily worldwide in the name of this religion in the same predictable groups and culture.

Armenian Christians were also targeted in 1905 by Azerbaijani muslims.

The attempted coup was a load of crap. It was Erdogan’s (hardline islamist) way of getting rid of any and all opposition (judges, military, teachers and now citizens).

But even as moderates, the Ottomans were monsters who ravaged the Balkans for centuries. They had an easy time conquering muslim nations, but the Balkan Christian spirit was impossible to break. Only through Tito’s loose refugee policy and then the ‘oppressed’ people of Kosovo tricking fellow Christians into backstabbing them did the muslims win any ground there.

The situation in Turkey is so dire I think there should be a dedicated thread with daily info posted, what do you think? As there was in Egypt, and some other dire situations. There are so many article, vital info may get lost and it's hard for people to get or stay up to speed.
