Mainline Christian Denomination Praying to Allah?
CBN ^ | 6/28/16

The Presbyterian Church, U.S.A. is raising eyebrows after lifting up prayers to Allah at its General Assembly meeting last week.

"Allah bless us and bless our families and bless our Lord. Lead us on the straight path - the path of all prophets: Abraham, Ishmael, Isaac, Moses, Jesus, and Muhammad."

These were the words that rang out over the congregation at The General Assembly of the Presbyterian Church, USA meeting in Portland, Oregon. Wajidi Said, co-founder of the Muslim Education Trust, led the attendees in the prayer to the Islamic deity - a move arranged by the Ecumenical and Interfaith ministry staff at the assembly.

The prayer was part of the "first order of business" during the meeting's opening session, a time dedicated to praying for those affected by the Orlando shooting that occured just weeks before.

"In the name of Allah, the beneficent, the merciful, let us praise the Lord... Peace be upon them and peace be upon Allah," Said prayed. He also prayed peace on the "bigots" and "Islamaphobes."

"Was the area covered by most of the Orthodox Church conquered at one time by Islam."

Pretty much yes, with the exception of Orthodoxy in Russia and the more northern parts of Eastern Europe.

"Did they submit and stop referring to G_d as Yahweh?"

I suspect that we never called God Yahweh. In the Balkans God was called, as I said, Ο Θεος or more formally as in icons, Ο ΩΝ. Greek was the common language back then. There were (and are) Christian people in what is now Syria, Lebanon and Jordan/Israel who spoke Aramaic (ʼĔlāhā, or Alaha) and others who long before the Mohammedan conquest spoke Arabic. Submitting to the Mohammedans politically came later.

"Did the term “allah” come in, when those areas were conquered?"

No, it came in before. As you can see, the Aramaic/Assyrian word is almost identical to Allah. Aramaic is the language Christ used.

Aren’t you an atheist, or am I mistaking you for another Greek-named jerk who likes to scream everybody’s wrong about Christianity, and the Bible is a bunch of badly assembled junk, etc. etc.?

“Allah” is a proper name for the Muslim deity, while “illaha” is their word for “god”. Similar sounding, but not the same, just like I posted earlier.

Not quite. "illa" is the word for "god" or "deity" in the generic sense. "Allah" is a contraction of "al illa," which means "the God". It's the same as the difference (cf Jehovah's Witnesses) between "the word was _a_ god" and "the word was God".

As I understand it, “allah” is the Arabic word for “god”.

Something tells me this isn't true. It is used as a proper name for a specific god.

It's like Crescent Wrench. It started out being a name brand then became a wrench type. Visa Versa seems true here. Funny coincidence that I'd randomly pick CRESCENT Wrench to try to make the point!

And one of the 99 names for allah is the deceiver

The God of Abraham , Issac and Jacob is the God of the bible and the only one true God . His name is not allah it is Yah.

Psa_68:4 Sing unto God, sing praises to his name: extol him that rideth upon the heavens by his name JAH, and rejoice before him.

יהּ
yâhh
yaw
Contracted for H3068, and meaning the same; Jah, the sacred name: - Jah, the Lord, most vehement. Cp. names in “-iah,” “-jah.”

Mat_27:46 And about the ninth hour Jesus cried with a loud voice, saying, Eli, Eli, lama sabachthani? that is to say, My God, my God, why hast thou forsaken me?

Notice what Jesus said in Aramaic
Eli not allah

You are not making a case because the original Arabic word for God was not the personal idol of the Nabataens named allah to by which all the early mosque instead of pointing to Mecca pointed to the place where the Nabataens worshiped their moon good allah , the city now known at Petra .

The word allah MEANS CURSE

Some Arabic speaking Christians use “Allah”. It is Arabic for god.

I’ve been accused of being many things, some of them true, but I have never been accused of being an atheist. You’ve got the wrong Greek!

[[And my mother wants to know why I don’t attend church anymore. First it was “okaying” gay marriage, and now this?]]

Find another church that actually reads , teaches and follows the bible . If they are lifting up abominations God is not there .
It is getting harder and harder to find a good church in this country.

Maybe that’s why so many of these so-called “churches” have been converted to bars...better use of real estate.

Eli not allah

The Semitic "el" came into Arabic as "illa". "Allah" is "al illah"; "the God".

The word allah MEANS CURSE

Document this claim please.

It's this one https://www.blueletterbible.org/lang/lexicon/lexicon.cfm?Strongs=H422 ʼâlâh, aw-law'; a primitive root; properly, to adjure, i.e. (usually in a bad sense) imprecate:—adjure, curse, swear.

That’s Hebrew, not Arabic. Arabic has a bunch of words for “curse,” none of which sound like “allah”.

And the bible was not given in Arabic but Hebrew and here is another (Daniel 2:43) And whereas thou sawest iron mixed with miry clay, they shall mingle themselves with the seed of men: but they shall not cleave one to another, even as iron is not mixed with clay. ערב ‛ărab ar-ab' (Chaldee); corresponding to H6148; to commingle: - mingle (self), mix. The muslims do not worship the God of the bible , they worship a demon and they should not be allowed to preach their antichrist religion in any church that calls themselves Christian . God's name is not allah

Personally, I don’t think we can say whether God views prayers to Allah as being addressed to Himself. I would not want to presume He does not. Of course, I agree with everyone here that Muslims’ construction of Allah is all wrong; not triune, not merciful, etc., etc., but God might still listen to defective prayers, for better or worse for the pray-er, and might accepts bits and pieces of heartfelt honest prayer from the same individuals. You can’t and shouldn’t try to convince me He wouldn’t.
