Pray For the Peace of Jerusalem

Only Mark gives us this odd detail about James and John. Why did Jesus nickname the brothers the "Sons of Thunder"? It sounds like the name of a motorcycle club!

As we continue our character study of John, we will see some things that might be clues to this odd nickname. We shall see how James and John become confidants in an inner circle around Jesus, along with Peter. We shall see how James and John, miffed because the Samaritans didn't accept their Message, ask Jesus if they can "Call down Fire From Heaven" to destroy them!

Later on, in the Book of Acts we shall see that James is the first Apostle killed by Herod, and further, will shall see that John is the very last of the original 12 to die.

In an "not so thunderous moment", we will see James and John's mother lobbying Jesus for special positions for her sons, and we will see these guys arguing over "who is the greatest."

Since Jesus already knew all of these things in advance, his nickname for the Brothers Zebedee is filled with humor and irony, and perhaps even a hint of sarcasm. He KNEW who He was dealing with!

Come and Pray For the Peace of Jerusalem, For Our FRiends in Need, For Persecuted Believers, and For Our Beloved Nation.

Blessings To All Who Visit This Garden of Prayer.
