Pray For the Peace of Jerusalem
Character Studies From The Bible
John
The Gospels)
(Matthew 4)
18 As Jesus was walking beside the Sea of Galilee, he saw two brothers, Simon called Peter and his brother Andrew. They were casting a net into the lake, for they were fishermen. 19 Come, follow me, Jesus said, and I will send you out to fish for people. 20 At once they left their nets and followed him.
21 Going on from there, he saw two other brothers, James son of Zebedee and his brother John. They were in a boat with their father Zebedee, preparing their nets. Jesus called them, 22 and immediately they left the boat and their father and followed him.

Pray For the Peace of Jerusalem
Good Morning! I am back from my much-needed vacation (albeit in Florida, just a few hours away from the latest Terrorist attack on America, which only emphasizes the importance of Prayer for our Nation), and am ready to embark upon a new character study of the Apostle John. From today's Passage we see that John is among the first four of the Apostles, and probably the youngest. He is found working in the commercial fishery of the Sea of Galilee with his father Zebedee and older brother James. Later in our study we shall also meet John's mother as she tries to lobby for her sons for a high position with Jesus! Some things never change.
We will study John's story in the first three Synoptic Gospels, and then we will hear from John himself in the Gospel that bears his name, three personal letters, and the Book of Revelation.
There is some dispute among scholars about the "Revelation John" and the "Gospel John", whether they were the same person. I happen to believe that they were, and will give you my reasons when we get to that awesome and perplexing Book.
Today we will read of the "Call" of John, the "Apostle that Jesus loved", the one Jesus asked to take care of His Mother after His Crucifixion, the one who lived longer than all the other Apostles, and the one who has come to be known as "The Apostle of Love".
Come and Pray For the Peace of Jerusalem, For Our FRiends in Need, For Persecuted Believers, and For Our Beloved Nation.
Blessings To All Who Visit This Garden of Prayer.

Good to see you back on the thread! By the way, a nice painting of St. John the Evangelist by Guido Reni, one of my favorites.
My prayers always for the Peace of Jerusalem, our FRiends in need and all persecuted. God bless.
