“I grew up United Methodist, but left about 30 years ago and eventually found myself in the Orthodox Church. Things have been unraveling in the UMC for decades. There are people and clergy who have remained fathful to traditional Christianity, and there are others who could not abandon it fast enough. Unfortunately, the latter have dominated national leadership roles, seminary faculty, etc., for some time. I guess they figured the cultural climate was right this year to make a big push on the homosexual issue.”
You are so fortunate to have access to an Orthodox Church. The closest one to me is around 80 miles. I was raised Baptist & would never go back. My Mother turned Pentecostal & I hate it. All emotion, no substance.
I am drawn to the Orthodox Church because it’s ancient & the worship is incredibly beautiful & reverent. I only wish that the Orthodox Church had more prayer & worship apps to download, like the Catholics have.
It definitely has been the home I was looking for. Some good online resources are the Orthodox Christian Network, Ancient Faith Radio, and the Online Chapel of the Greek Orthodox Archdiocese of America. I know there is an app for Ancient Faith Radio.
Where I live, there are plenty of the ethnic groups that brought Orthodoxy with them. If you have the opportunity to make that 80-mile trip sometimes, I encourage you to do so., especially during the holidays.
