basement trolls are very courageous ... while behind their keyboards.

i’d gladly introduce their face to a marble bar top any day of the week.

Surely his advisors would know how to block, wouldn’t they?

I suspect he'd get the same response to a twitter about Mary and the Saints. People who hate God hate God's people.

Perhaps he'll do it and we'll see.

They should have advised him to set it up blocked, so he could just make statements. Now it would look like he's running away. Still, he should block it anyway. If asked, his office could just say that he didn't want to provide an avenue for abuse.

And, to think...

In the “good ol’ days”, Popes had to worry about minor things like Schisms and Crusades...

Bear in mind...this is The Daily Mirror, a British tabloid.

It's unclear from the article whether the Pope's Twitter feed was swamped with abuse, of which three or four examples are given here, or whether the abusive tweets were nothing more than isolated, sporadic examples in a sea of favorable comments but singled out and highlighted by the Mirror in typical, tabloid, sensationalist style.

Just googled it

https://www.google.com.bz/#q=pope+twitter+abuse

And --- I just glanced at it ---- it looks like it's been a lot more widely covered internationally than just The Mirror (although maybe they're all just referencing the Mirror article, I don't know.)
