This is a complete misconception. The term "day and night" is a Jewish idiom referring to any part of a 24 hour period, it does not, has never, and never will refer to a literal 24 hour period. Jesus own words:

Matthew 17:23 and they will kill him, and he will be raised on the third day.” And they were overwhelmed with grief.

Mark 8:31 He began to teach them that the Son of Man* must suffer greatly and be rejected by the elders, the chief priests, and the scribes, and be killed, and rise after three days.

Mark 9:31 He was teaching his disciples and telling them, “The Son of Man is to be handed over to men and they will kill him, and three days after his death he will rise.”

Luke 9:22 He said, “The Son of Man must suffer greatly and be rejected by the elders, the chief priests, and the scribes, and be killed and on the third day be raised.”

John 2:19 Jesus answered and said to them,“Destroy this temple and in three days I will raise it up.”

Peter affirms: Acts 10:40 This man God raised (on) the third day and granted that he be visible,

Paul confirms:

1 Corinthians 15:4 and that He was buried, and that He was raised on the third day according to the Scriptures,

Too many people hand there hat on a single verse without understanding Jewish idioms. Unless someone can document that Jonah was in the belly of the beast for exactly 72 hours, not a second more or less than they are dead wrong.

Too many people hand there hat on a single verse without understanding Jewish idioms.

Or days or hours.

The Jewish 'day' starts at sundown.

Ours at midnight.
