So your argument is because the ancients engaged in debauchery it is ok? I am not sure I follow.

Do you think Fulton Sheen would have given Bowie a Catholic funeral if his family asked for it?

Ancients, you say! This was the dawn of modernity. Plus, you know, I shouldn’t have to point out that this all occurred in the very bosom of the Church. So where do you turn? To God, no doubt! But where is He? ... fighting in the dance hall, maybe? You never know!

A world lit only by fire by Manchester was better.

So because folks in the Church sinned, and all have sinned, as the Bible tells us, we need to jump on Bowie’s band wagon. Interesting.

“That having been said, his video for Blackstar is about as full of demonic imagery as one can get.”

Is it? I haven’t seen it.

He was very in to the occult.

On the other hand he did recite the Lord’s Prayer, on hid knees, at the Freddy Mercury memorial.

As far as I’m concerned, it’s just one less fag stinking up the joint. Good riddance.

Well Geez, not even knowing anything in particular about it, I would have to say, "Heck, yeah!" I thought that was de rigueur.

It's simple to understand. Everything comes back to the Church. So if they start rejecting people, where's the percentage in that? Of course, they'll take him!

Is there life on Mars?

Is there - is there balm in Gilead? - tell me - tell me, I implore!

He was a homosexual and an atheist (Bowie, not sheen). How do you think he could be buried in consecrated ground?

What do you mean, “where’s the percentage in that”? I don’t follow.

Read Sheen:

“I do not think this article is nasty or spiteful”

Apparently you read a different article.

You posited that the family asked for a Catholic burial, and I say, how could they be refused? His days of debauchery and everything else are over. Now it’s time for absolution. Gosh, I thought this was the routine.

As for the “percentage” it’s simple. The Church is a community. Do they want to reject members, or draw them in? Of course the Church does not espouse this calculus, but it is ineluctable.

So every article that is critical of how someone lives is nasty and spiteful? Then most of the commentary on this site qualifies.

I do not think the Catholic Church has an open door policy. Being an atheist pretty much excludes you from taking communion, getting married, or being buried by the Church. They may do some sort of service for you, but you are not to be buried in hallowed ground. Yes, you are welcome to attend a service or sermon, but you do not partake.

Didn’t you read the Sheen?

“Many a modern preacher is far less concerned with preaching Christ and Him crucified than he is with his popularity with his congregation. A want of intellectual backbone makes him straddle the ox of truth and the ass of nonsense, paying compliments to Catholics because of “their great organization” and to sexologists because of “their honest challenge to the youth of this generation.” Bending the knee to the mob rather than God would probably make them scruple at ever playing the role of John the Baptist before a modern Herod. No accusing finger would be leveled at a divorce or one living in adultery; no voice would be thundered in the ears of the rich, saying with something of the intolerance of Divinity: “It is not lawful for thee to live with thy brother’s wife.” Rather would we hear: “Friends, times are changing!” The acids of modernity are eating away the fossils of orthodoxy.”

The Church is NOT a popularity contest. Yes, we pray for Bowie and his family, but they are not part of the Church. As far as we know, it is too late for him.

I guess if one believes in Judgement Day then after all the souls who have ever lived been judged, which will take some time...God will then spend quite a lot of time doing a diatribe on each one and how bad they were, what losers they were...didn’t deserve to live, blah blah blah

Or possibly this is not the way the Divine chooses to do things.

Kinda think not.

Some create, like Bowie.

Others cannot create or do much of anything worthwhile, so they follow a little rulebook in the hope that some father figure will give them a cookie.

But deep down, they know how pathetic they are, so they project their hate outward and proclaim that Bowie will not get a cookie and will go to Hell.

These people are so dumb that that’s the only conception of morality they have; that of a dimwitted & terrified 8 year old.

Bowie tried to split SRV away from Double Trouble.

That was far more of an offense than his sex life.
