Pray For the Peace of Jerusalem

Character Studies From The Bible

Paul

9. Meanwhile, Saul was still breathing out murderous threats against the Lord’s disciples. He went to the high priest 2. and asked him for letters to the synagogues in Damascus, so that if he found any there who belonged to the Way, whether men or women, he might take them as prisoners to Jerusalem. 3. As he neared Damascus on his journey, suddenly a light from heaven flashed around him. 4. He fell to the ground and heard a voice say to him, “Saul, Saul, why do you persecute me?”

5. “Who are you, Lord?” Saul asked.

“I am Jesus, whom you are persecuting,” he replied. 6. “Now get up and go into the city, and you will be told what you must do.” 7. The men traveling with Saul stood there speechless; they heard the sound but did not see anyone. 8. Saul got up from the ground, but when he opened his eyes he could see nothing. So they led him by the hand into Damascus. 9. For three days he was blind, and did not eat or drink anything.

(Acts 9)

Pray For the Peace of Jerusalem

This famous incident in the life of Paul has been depicted in Paintings and Film for centuries. Most "conversion experiences" are not nearly so dramatic, but, as we have learned, Paul was a tough nut to crack. The simple message of of God's Grace and Mercy are often very difficult to convey to righteous and religious people. Paul was very religious...and proud of it. In some ways, he was a religious terrorist, much like fanatics we contend with in our own day. That is why we should never doubt the power of God's Grace to change a person, no matter how awful they may seem to us! On the other hand, the people who knew "The Old Paul" would be very cautious in accepting him. That was also a wise thing, as there are many phonies around as well.

Come and Pray For the Peace of Jerusalem, For Our FRiends in Need, For Persecuted Believers, and For Our Beloved Nation.

PRAYERS ASCENDING ON HIGH FOR
THE PEACE OF JERUSALEM!
And for the Preservation of the Valiant
Israeli Nation!

"The Conversion of St. Paul"
Peter Paul Rubens ~ 1602

_ ND Saul, yet breathing out threatenings and slaughter against the disciples of the Lord, went unto the high priest,

And desired of him letters to Damascus to the synagogues, that if he found any of this way, whether they were men or women, he might bring them bound unto Jerusalem.
And as he journeyed, he came near Damascus: and suddenly there shined round about him a light from heaven:

And he fell to the earth, and heard a voice saying unto him, Saul, Saul, why persecutest thou me?

And he said, Who art thou, Lord? And the Lord said, I am Jesus whom thou persecutest: it is hard for thee to kick against the pricks.

And he trembling and astonished said, Lord, what wilt thou have me to do? And the Lord said unto him, Arise, and go into the city, and it shall be told thee what thou must do.

And the men which journeyed with him stood speechless, hearing a voice, but seeing no man.

And Saul arose from the earth; and when his eyes were opened, he saw no man: but they led him by the hand, and brought him into Damascus.

And he was three days without sight, and neither did eat nor drink.
