“Taylor Swift”

A lot of modern performers, Taylor Swift, Britney Spears, Selena Gomez, Carrie Underwood, even Justin Bieber, start out as virginal innocents. Some of them even talk about God. But there seems to be so much pressure on them to come with the sensuality. And boy do they often sink low, later.

I’m in my 40’s and for quite a few years I haven’t listened to current music. Can’t relate to it. I like 80’s stuff but I rarely have music on anyways, it’s usually talk radio, yeah I’m pretty boring. No, actually I don’t care for experiencing the emotions that go along with it. There’s quite a bit of regret in my past. I love the music but it just brings me back to the regrets and longing to go back because my youth was cut so short.

“I’m in my 40’s and for quite a few years I haven’t listened to current music.”

Heck, I’m in my twenties and I can’t relate. I don’t like the values that modern music espouses. Plus, most “artists” just make 90 repetitive verses and then call it a song. No substance whatsoever.

Hmm. It’s weird to equate a hard partying death metal rocker with being a Christian (though Christ wasn’t specifically mentioned) but the fact he believes in God is a major step in right direction.

Well, to be honest when I would listen to Metallica in my teen years it made me feel, if anything, oddly MORE spiritual and pro-God.

Well, Momma from that movie “The Waterboy” (Adam Sandler) said that “Footsballs the devil’s game.” (They call soccer football over there!)

http://hollowverse.com/james-hetfield/

excerpt on Metalica:

However, Hetfield retains a certain kind of faith, mostly expressed in his tattoos. On his left arm, Hetfield has an eye looking down onto an angel. He describes this as a reminder that a higher power is watching over him, as he most certainly should have died many times over due to poor decisions and dangerous situations. He also has a cross tattooed on his chest. When asked about it, he said:

Symbolism is pretty big for me, and the cross for me represents balance and connection with a higher power. I love some of the religious stories because whether they are real or not they are awesome inspiring stories.

And so his faith might be formless and without an official name, but it is faith nonetheless, and clearly influenced by, or a part of Christianity.

LOL

Well, the only Adam Sandler movie I really liked was Reign Over Me also starring Don Cheadle. Not that I hated all of his other movies. Just some of them.

Interesting. I remember hearing something way back about his having been brought up in the faith but then seeing the adults around him being hypocrites, turned him away from organized religion for a time(or something to that effect.)

Those lyrics. They are satire.

Satan hears the words even when spoken in jest.

He was raised Christian Scientist - his mom died of something because she didn’t get treatment (against their religion/cult). I can see where that would sway your faith in that cult. Hopefully he finds what he’s looking for.

Great band. They have an excellent un-PC line in their 2012 song “West Coast Rock Steady”:

done laps around the world but I keep comin back
to the sunshine state where even gangstas skate
with all these California girls how could you not be straight?

“Conservative” isn’t the standard. God’s Word is.

The church in America has gone into apostasy, by and large. The more that sin is openly celebrated today, the less the church is troubled and concerned by it. The church is mostly asleep. As long as the comfortable lifestyles, sports games and new television seasons go on, the church will just drift along. I most certainly do believe that God has warned America, through the connections between 9/11 and Isaiah 9, that He will one day judge it. 9/11 was the big wake up call, and America hasn’t woken up. And one reason for why the church is asleep and stays asleep are the voices in the church saying that whatever pleases people is approved of God, and reproaching people who stand up for God’s Word. Just about anything and everything is zealously defended within the church today if some people like it, despite that its fruit exposes it for what it is. We’re called to surrender everything to God’s Will, and He will change us over time if we do that.

“Woe unto them that call evil good, and good evil; that put darkness for light, and light for darkness; that put bitter for sweet, and sweet for bitter!” Isaiah 5:20

How are those lyrics satire?

“But I say unto you, That every idle word that men shall speak, they shall give account thereof in the day of judgment.” Matthew 12:36

“Woe unto them that call evil good, and good evil; that put darkness for light, and light for darkness; that put bitter for sweet, and sweet for bitter!” Isaiah 5:20

Love not the world, neither the things that are in the world. If any man love the world, the love of the Father is not in him.

16 For all that is in the world, the lust of the flesh, and the lust of the eyes, and the pride of life, is not of the Father, but is of the world.

17 And the world passeth away, and the lust thereof: but he that doeth the will of God abideth for ever. (1 John 2:15-17)

It isn’t a matter of passing judgment on people. God will do that.

But He has also made it that we are to learn from what happens to ourselves and other people. Is it wrong to connect Charlie Sheen contracting HIV with the way he’s lived his life?

And remember that by and large, the West is rejecting God’s Word, and dismissing fear of the Lord as ridiculous, faith in God as a man-made tactic to control others, and saying that Jesus’ death wasn’t necessary because we haven’t done anything that needs forgiveness (the last part straight from a Salon article I recently read).

1 There were present at that season some that told him of the Galilaeans, whose blood Pilate had mingled with their sacrifices.

2 And Jesus answering said unto them, Suppose ye that these Galilaeans were sinners above all the Galilaeans, because they suffered such things?

3 I tell you, Nay: but, except ye repent, ye shall all likewise perish.

4 Or those eighteen, upon whom the tower in Siloam fell, and slew them, think ye that they were sinners above all men that dwelt in Jerusalem?

5 I tell you, Nay: but, except ye repent, ye shall all likewise perish. (Luke 13)

Hasn’t the West rejected the Gospel, by and large?
