Moving Out in Faith
Abraham went to a far country at the bidding of God. He was not young and foolish. He was advanced in years, being seventy-five years old when God said to him: Get out of your country, from your family and from your fathers house, to a land that I will show you (Gen. 12:1).
Abrahams move was not a temporary trip for purposes of study or relaxation. It was to be a permanent uprooting for himself and his immediate family. It meant leaving both his fathers house and his fatherland. It meant leaving everything that was a part of his security. He left his home, his property, his business contacts, his doctor, and everyone else that was integral to his community. He took his wife, his nephew, and some servants. The only other person who went with him was God.
What made Abrahams departure all the more startling was that he had no idea where he was going. He was a pilgrim with no place to call his home. But he went with a promise, a sacred pledge from God Himself that the Lord would show him a land wherein Abraham would become the father of a great nation.
This moment in his life was memorialized by the author of Hebrews: By faith Abraham obeyed when he was called to go out to the place which he would receive as an inheritance (Heb. 11:8).
Coram Deo
Is God asking you to move out by faith in some area of your life or ministry?
Passages for Further Study
Hebrews 11:8 By faith Abraham obeyed when he was called to go out to a place that he was to receive as an inheritance. And he went out, not knowing where he was going. 9 By faith he went to live in the land of promise, as in a foreign land, living in tents with Isaac and Jacob, heirs with him of the same promise. 10 For he was looking forward to the city that has foundations, whose designer and builder is God.

And so it was that Noah obeyed when he was called to go out to a place that he was to receive as an inheritance. And he went out, not knowing where he was going
Gladly! Welcome!
Thanks for posting these threads.....
A couple of points: 1) God did not ask, He commanded. 2) He commanded by direct revelation. There was no question in Abram's mind that it was God who was talking to him, and there was no doubt as to what it was that God wanted him to do.
It is much different when we do not have direct revelation to tell us just where and how God wants us to do "something."
I think a lot of people “go” on missions who aren’t called. They think they have to go and they do more harm than good.
I know of others how are called to mission work and do go and are right where they are supposed to be.
Is there direct revelation? Probably not. But God still whispers to many and tells them exactly what they should be doing.
