Then ditch the false narrative and worship of Mary. That’d be a start.

I get it.

The church teaches that it’s infallible, except when it’s not.

The pope can speak infallibly, except when he doesn’t.

Catholics have to accept infallible teaching of some kind, except when they don’t.

And to clarify matters, they throw in a bunch of Latin phrases to sound really intellectual.

And in the end, Catholic still argue amongst themselves over what is infallible and what has to be adhered to or not.

They aren’t even sure.

Perhaps I missed it. Where in the above article does it state that God speaks to the pope?

How can he speak ex cathedra, then?

Just where do his infallible pronuncements from from if not God?

Do Catholics believe that God speaks to ANYONE any more? If He doesn't speak to the pope, then where's the hope that anyone can hear His voice?

We've seen the disagreement on these threads amongst the cahtolics. They can't even agree on the basics....save for the false narrative on Mary.

That is truly amazing.

I believe I speak for many Catholics both on and off the forum who have a high appreciation of your concern in our Catholic beliefs.

We especially appreciate your well formed and comments based on your true Christian concern for all your Catholic brethren in Christ.

Your deep understanding and study on the subject of Papal Infallability and the Majesterium leaves the rest of us poor unschooled Catholics shaking our heads in awe...

or not.

An article on “infallibility” Sola Scriptura fails to find a single verse of Scripture that states the church is infallible Sola Scriptura is scriptural in any way whatsoever!

Fixed it for you save it for the next time one of you want to go off on that jag.

“Fixed it for you save it for the next time one of you want to go off on that jag.”

Actually, you made two errors verga my friend.

1. I didn’t refer to Sola Scriptura. I made an observation that the author of the article could not find a single verse that came close to stating what they were purporting to prove.

2. Sola Scriptura is more than supported. Scripture is the only source of infallible, authoritative, inspired truth, as the Scripture itself states over and over.

Now, if you can roust up a single verse that says any church is infallible, I’d love to see it.

This response is beside the point, since the Church does not teach that any human person is infallible, and certainly not by nature.

Infallibility is a gift TO the Church, to protect it FROM the errors of popes. It is not that the Pope will always say the right thing, but that if the pope thinks or believes or says the WRONG thing, it will not be in such a way as to lead the whole church into error.

That is to say, erroneous papal opinions will not be permitted to become dogmas.

But it was a long article to read. So for everyone's convenience, here's a relevant and wacky cartoon featuring a Pope who croaks, for your edification: "How to Explain Papal Infallibility in Under Two Minutes" (YouTube)

Enjoy!

How can he speak ex cathedra, then?

What is your understanding of ex cathedra?

I believe the very first paragraph fits eagleone to a T:

THE USUAL ARTICLE

“THE Editor of an evening paper published recently what he
announced as, and even apologized for as “an unusual article.”
He anxiously guarded himself from expressing any opinion on the
dreadful and dangerous views which the unusual article set forth.
Needless to say, before I had read five lines of the unusual article,
I knew it was a satisfactory sample of the usual article.
It was even a careful and correct copy of the usual article;
a sort of prize specimen, as if a thing could be unusually usual.
I had read the article before, of course—thousands and thousands
of times (as it seems to me)—and had always found it the same;
but never before, somehow, had it seemed so exactly the same.”

... but ithe meaning may be too obscure for the Protestant masses coming from someone as Catholic as Chesterton.

For the Greater Glory of God

That didn’t answer any of the questions.

Does God speak to the pope?

Does the pope speak for God?

Where does he get his infallible pronouncements from?

The Word notes it is written. You know, for a group who claims they “gave” us the bible yall seem to do everything you can to discount it. Truly amazing.

Yes, there have been numerous threads explaining the Greek behind this passage which shows the catholic understanding is an incorrect one.

God is infallible when He speaks on matters of faith and morals and He tells us what that is in Scripture.

We don’t need someone to come along and say *Murder is wrong* when God already declared it wrong.

What matters of faith and morals is the RCC going to pronounce on that God has already not declared to us already?

It is written. Perhaps if you read the Word you’d know that.
