"...understatement..."

Thank you for a nice (and rare) compliment. I do try.

Can we still call it sin?

Is the wealthy Vatican afraid of losing collection revenues from LGBT people?

They are more afraid of losing support of women with gay friends.

"Can we still call it sin?"

How 'bout this:

Basing itself on Sacred Scripture, which presents homosexual acts as acts of grave depravity, tradition has always declared that "homosexual acts are intrinsically disordered." They are contrary to the natural law. They close the sexual act to the gift of life. They do not proceed from a genuine affective and sexual complementarity. Under no circumstances can they be approved.

Catechism of the Catholic Church, #2357

For fear of hijacking this thread I’ll make this brief:

Of note, paragraph 841 itself does not say Catholics and *Islam* share the same God, rather that we do with Muslims. Some say this is a distinction without a difference but I say it’s an important one. This is because “Muslims” are human beings Islam is a religion. The human beings who are “Muslim” process faith in:

- One God (not many gods)
- God as Creator
- God as loving (although arguably not as much as ours in practice, but at least in principle theirs loves his creation as much as ours)

So what all of this means, all paragraph 841 is saying, is that the God they believe in shares some traits with the God we believe in. Truth is truth no matter where it comes from. And of all the pagans, Muslims share the greatest harmony with Christianity.

Again, for emphasis: of all the PAGANS.

This is the meaning of 841 (they just don’t use the word “pagan”) and as you point out, the context of the Catechism surrounding that passage is clear: only Christianity contains all truth, even though some other religions have some truth(s).

These are simply facts, but some can twist the language of 841, ripping it out of context, to support any agenda. Just won’t be the truth though.

I assume you suggest the same course of action for mainline Protestant churches, such as ELCA, PCUSA, UCC and Episcopalians...? If not, why not...?

LOL!
Sure, if it will make you happy, I'll consider the Roman Catholic church to be counted amongst those apostate churches you listed.
Actually, the Roman Church is certainly a cut above the PCUSA, UCC, and Episcopalians (I'll have to take your word on it about the ELCA - I'm not sure who they are).

They are our sons and daughters, our brothers and sisters, our neighbors and our colleagues."

There are probably a lot of murderers, robbers and rapists who fit that description, too. That doesn't stop us from calling them what they are.

As for homosexuals, the issue is not what they are but what the do. It is their actions that must be condemned. They should be treated the same as any other sinner. They should be instructed to repent and reform. And not to give up the first time they backslide.

From the catholic catechism itself. Direct quote.

“The plan of salvation also includes those who acknowledge the Creator, in the first place amongst whom are the Muslims; these profess to hold the faith of Abraham, and together with us they adore the one, merciful God, mankind’s judge on the last day.”

Hahaha sorry but Allah and the god they worship is not the same god as true Judeo/Christians worship. Sugar coat and reason it away all you like there it is.
