The Russian Orthodox Church has backed the country's parliamentary decision to give President Vladimir Putin permission to use military force in Syria, saying the fight against terrorism is a "holy war".

The head of Synodal department for church and society, Archpriest Vsevolod Chaplin, told journalists on 30 September that the decision from the upper chamber of parliament, the Federation Council, to authorise air strikes in Syria was "consistent with international law, the mentality of our people and the role that our country has always played in the Middle East", according to Interfax news agency.

He added that Russia cannot be indifferent while Christians and other minority groups are being destroyed in the region. The interreligious council of Russia released a statement in support of military operations against terrorism in the Middle East. "The fight against terrorism is a holy struggle and today our country is perhaps the most active force in the world to combat terrorism," the priest said.

The Russian air strikes were in Talbiseh (Talbisa), Homs, far from ISIS forces. The Russians are bombing the Free Syrian Army.

Map of the Situation (including which areas are controlled by which factions)

The obvious reason is that the Russians hope to destroy moderate factions that want a secular government, leaving only radical Islamist factions like ISIS as an excuse to build up the Assad/Iranian side.

It appears that Putin's hope is to stabilize the situation and put it under the control of Iran and Russia before making pacts with other nations to move further south. It appears to be another Russian proxy campaign to take the Mediterranean (to control energy resources, ports, military routes and more) and to take Israel for the Mother Church of Russia (Eastern Orthodox) and similar religious allies. Russia conducted a similar long campaign to build up Arab proxies and prod them to attack Israel before the Six Day War.

The Russian Orthodox Church wants to take Jerusalem.

If that was an American plane, the crew would be decommissioned and put in the brig for violating the sensitivities of non Christians in the blessing of the plane. We expect our planes to drop bombs to kill people and destroy things regardless of race, religion, and ethnicity. The kind of killing the Obama progressive can feel good about.

Yes!

That’s what the pope should’ve said — crusade against Muslim terrorists.

We are led by a nitwit. Vladmir will do what he does, and with the leadership we have has no standing to dispute anything. Again, the people who stayed home in 2012 who voted McCain in 2008, should look in the mirror to see whose fault this is. Romney was flawed domestically, but would have had the balls to fight Islamism.

Russians have been dealing with Muslims for centuries, they know better than all of the blowhard rhetoric leftists like to spew.

Funny how Eastern Europe, the part that actually had to deal with Muslims the most, doesn’t buy the “multicultural” crap.

Which is why Obama hates it, like he hates anything Christian.

He’s on the other team, and we know who heads that team.

"Russia is bombing towns in Syria that are controlled by anti-regime rebels — and not by ISIS "

The FSA, what's left of them, are aligned with Al Nusra in the south.

An Al Qaeda affiliate.

They do have some common endeavor with the Kurds and the Christian militias in the north, but down south they fight with Al Nusra.

Most of FSA is smoking from the hookah in Turkey, those who have not defected to the Islamist militias.

FSA is an illusion created by CIA, Turk and Saudi Intelligence.

“Russia is bombing towns in Syria that are controlled by anti-regime rebels — and not by ISIS “

Liberal propaganda. Obama apologist and neocons can’t stand the thought of Putin actually taking the fight to ISIS. He knows if Russia has to wait for O’ZERO to act he’ll be waiting till hell freezes over.

Every once in a while, I wonder just when I left Earth for Bizzaro world.

Russia is having priests bless planes attacking Christian killing muslims, and we fire SpecOps soldiers for trying to stop our allies raping young boys.

They want Constantinople first.

Russia now has the Turks surrounded on all sides.

They have also been working deals with Israel. Israel is going to drift to whomever will give them the most support.
