Back in the dark ages (60s) when I was a freshman in HS my English teacher in my catholic school was married. That was already a big deal and God bless Father Sullivan for letting Mrs. Murphy keep teaching since her husband had cancer. But the big secret (everyone but father knew) was that she was pregnant.
So what was the big deal about a married woman being pregnant?
Back in the day, it was not unusual for married women to have to leave their jobs if they were pregnant. Some employers also required women to be unmarried.
My old boss at That Insurance Company said they required she take a pregnancy test before they hired her, in the 1970s.
Can we assume that the Christian businesses and school are “discipling” the pregnant woman, rather than “discipline”?
“My old boss at That Insurance Company said they required she take a pregnancy test before they hired her, in the 1970s.”
Boy that sure is an invasion of privacy! I heard the case of Roe Vs Wade but I did not realize how widespread it was. No wonder they wonder the battle with Roe Vs Wade. They did the wrong thing however, those “womyn” should have changed labor laws. It’s not my employers business if I’m married/single or pregnant.
“Can we assume that the Christian businesses and school are discipling the pregnant woman, rather than discipline?”
If you are referring to the video, you can assume they are chasing the pregnant women to the abortion clinic. Mark Crutcher makes an excellent point in that it’s not that she’s sexually active it’s that she’s pregnant and the baby is evidence. The baby is what people don’t want to see.
I keep telling you all about the high number of Christians on the abortion table, when are you going to believe me???
Oh, I believe you. I was just pointing out the word in the text.
I keep mentioning this issue. Men want women to be sexually available outside of marriage, but are totally negative about pregnancy. Even married women find this, in fact.
I was 15. I don’t know. Buy in retrospect I’m guessing the whole sex thing made the clergy uncomfortable.
Male sexual freedom from responsibility and consequence. Men having unlimited sexual gratification by giving women the “right to chose”. Yea that makes sense to me, NOT! Why feminists of the 60’s fell for that I will never know.
Like so many other bad ideas, it’s easier to understand why someone fell for it “in theory” than it is to understand the allegiance to an idea that has produced disastrous results.
