We Catholics were spoiled by the two previous popes, St. JPII and Pope Benedict XVI, both of whom were cognizant of the wrong-headedness of liberation theology and its derivatives. Pope Benedict especially is an extraordinarily deep thinker. Pope Francis - not so much. He seems to think that liberation theology has some saving grace. At least, that is my perception.

I believe Pope Francis to be sincere, but ill-advised and, hence, misguided. He does not think through of what he speaks, and is given to what I would call the evangelical tendency to speak 'from the spirit'. He, like Pres. Obama, has surrounded himself with mendacious and predatory people as advisors. Pope Francis seems incapable of discernment. We must pray for him, and for the Church.

While the Church will never fail (we have that on the authoritative word of Jesus, Our Lord), individuals can and will fail. Such is the case here with Pope Francis when he ignores the real science and proclaims on junk science.

Peace and justice are possible only in the fullness of Truth, the one Truth that applies to all humans united in a single nature. It cannot be else.
