Trump Tells Christians 'I'm Presbyterian' and 'Proud of It'
The Christian Post ^ | July 22, 2015 | Leonardo Blair, reporter

Republican presidential candidate and unabashed billionaire Donald Trump is touting his Christian roots as a proud Presbyterian and has pledged to be the greatest representative of Christians in office, if he becomes president.

In an interview with CBN less than a month before he announced his run for president on June 16, Trump — who currently leads all candidates for the GOP's nomination according to recent polls — touted his faith and promised that if he becomes president, he would be the best representative of Christians in the White House that America has seen in a long time.

"First of all I'm Protestant. I'm Presbyterian. I'm proud of it. I'm very proud of it," Trump told CBN's David Brody. "Believe me, if I run and I win, I will be the greatest representative of the Christians that they've had in a long time."

Two Saturdays ago in Las Vegas, Nevada, Trump criticized the Obama administration for helping more Muslims from Syria immigrate to the United States than Christians, and touched on the persecution of Christians again during a campaign rally speech on Tuesday....

Methinks the Donald doth protest too much...

Pride goethe before the fall.

You two seem to be on the same page but the page seems not to make sense.

Claiming to be Christian and wanting to defend Christians seems a bit higher up the scale than "pride" and what the hell does the "protests too much" crap have to do with the article? Or is it just to demonstrate that you have talked with someone who is well read? The contextual phrase doesn't mean what you seem to think it means. Besides - the "methinks" comes after the main statement.

Yeah, I rearrange the quote. But do you even understand the meaning of the Bard’s quote?

"He’s “liberal” if you are a extreme right wind fanatic. Otherwise, no, not really and not much different than most republicans, even Cruz."

LOL! Thanks, my first laugh of the day.

Trump is liberal because his record is liberal.

He supports banning "automatic weapons."

He wants universal healthcare---specifically single payer.

He supports raising taxes on upper income earners.

He's a big fan of eminent domain, and in fact has twice used it to try and snatch the private property of others for his own use.

He said that the economy always does better under Democrats.

He said he self-identifies as a Democrat.

But to YOU...yeah, anything right of that would be a "fanatic."

Believe me, if I run and I win, I will be the greatest representative of the Christians that they’ve had in a long time.”

That says more about us than him.

Tim Keller is the guy who put the PCA on the map in Manhattan.

Its actually pretty revolutionary. There has likely not been a reformed church established in any downtown area anywhere in two hundred years or so. They were all liberal. All the dead and dying churches are downtown liberal churches.

Its actually scriptural to boast in the Lord. Donald mangles stuff by boasting of himself in the the Lord. You would not want him to be your pastor. But that’s not what he’s running for.

I quoted Shakespeare, as Donald’s overenthusiasm with his response sounds phony to me. His referring to “Christians” and “they” and not “we” is telling as well. Not as blatant as “my Muslim faith”, but a bit of a slip.

Yes; “old-time” Presbyterians and Methodists were extremely fundamental at one time. Now, for the most part, not so much.

I do. I see examples every day, especially among leftists/politicians - he who complains the most about other's defects is likely to have the defects he complains about (loose paraphrase).

That is why I didn't think it apropos for Trump - he wasn't making that sort of statement - merely pointing out that Christians are being persecuted against (another refreshing bit of Truth that most politicians steer clear of).

That is not what the quote means:

By "protest," Gertrude doesn't mean "object" or "deny"—these meanings postdate Hamlet. The principal meaning of "protest" in Shakespeare's day was "vow" or "declare solemnly," a meaning preserved in our use of "protestation." When we [sic] smugly declare that "the lady doth protest too much," we almost always mean that the lady objects so much as to lose credibility. Gertrude says that Player Queen affirms so much as to lose credibility. Her vows are too elaborate, too artful, too insistent.

To me, the quote from Mr. Trump about his faith seemed too over the top for credibility. Some other Freepers suggested that I watch the whole interview, which I will try to do at a later time.

And why do you think she loses that credibility? It’s because she’s being hypocritical and doesn’t really have an issue - ergo, she has the problem she protests against.

The person whose credibility in question with the quote wasn’t the queen, it was the Play Queen.

The quote is not used to highlight the quoter’s hypocrisy, otherwise the quote would never be used.
