Gov. Jerry Brown will go to the Vatican later this month for a summit on climate change hosted by Pope Francis, who has sought to focus worldwide attention on environmental issues.
The event, which includes a discussion on modern slavery, will draw an international collection of government officials and United Nations representatives.
"This unprecedented gathering of global leaders is a wake-up call to face up to the common threats of climate change and human exploitation,” Brown said in a statement Thursday. “This is about the future of humanity and how we as human beings live and treat one another and the natural world around us.”
Brown, who once considered a life in the priesthood and spent years in a Jesuit seminary before dropping out, has traveled widely to urge stronger action against the advance of global warming. He spoke at a conference here on Wednesday and told reporters that he wanted to “light a fire” under national leaders.
In an interview this week, Brown said Francis, who urged in a recent encyclical that more effort was needed to fight global warming, was “bringing a moral and theological dimension that adds to the market and political calculations” about climate change.
“We face an existential threat to human existence as we know it,” he said. “It’s not being taken seriously by the vast majority of powerful people. When the pope, as a powerful person, issues this encyclical, it’s a helpful addition to the mix.”
The pope has expressed concern, however, over cap and trade, a system used in California, Europe and elsewhere to cap polluting emissions by forcing businesses to buy and trade permits for releasing carbon into the atmosphere.

If you compare the history of the RCC to the scriptures, does it align more with the Church of Christ or the great and abominable church John wrote about in Revelation?
For how long did it sit upon the whole earth dealing out death to anyone that opposed it? How many thousands and tens of thousands died at the hands of the RCC?
Which church has a rule that it’s priesthood can’t marry? When Paul specifically stated that a sign of the doctrines of the devil was “they forbid to marry”...
More specifically, Paul stated that a Bishop would be the husband of one wife. The RCC forbids it’s Bishops to marry, which is a doctrine of the devil.

I mean, if it’s not the RCC John and Paul wrote about, then who? Which church fits their descriptions? They weren’t lying, so it has to be out there...so who matches up?

Your “enthusiasm” should be directed against the bad guys in the church (lower case “c” intentional), not the ones angered and repulsed by the bad ones.
I will pray for you. I wouldn’t judge another’s soul, as you did mine, that is not your place.
Christ said His Church is where two or more are gathered in His name, and that is what can never be conquered. The Catholic Church can and will be conquered.
