My written response to my 14-year old grand-daughter overlaying the rainbow colors on her FB profile pic...

“Marriage is between a man and a woman ..only. There is something very very unique about the relationship between a man and a woman. It comes from Nature itself. Man and woman were created to join together providing a necessary function for our species. Only a man and a woman are capable of producing new humans and providing a family unit in which children can develop within the important embrace and example of a loving mother and a father. Throughout History and over all the world humans have recognized and celebrated the uniqueness of this pairing as essential to our survival as a species and stability of our society. No other relationship comes even close to being equivalent to Marriage. If homosexuals wish to form a civil union between each other, they certainly should have that right but they can not claim that their union is a ‘marriage’.

What has happened in the US is, in a 5-4 decision, judges have gone beyond the limits of their responsiblility and have imposed upon the people something that should be the right of individual States to determine. It has set a dangerous judicial precedent and is a matter of grave concern not celebration.
We must always remember that Truth is not determined by a majority vote and that sometimes we have to follow the path of Truth and Reason even when it seems everyone else is going the other way.

Anyway M_____, I understand how you might want to support what has happened...you hear people saying ‘it’s only fair...why shouldn’t they be able to...and so forth’ and you have a good heart and naturally want to be fair, I’m sure at your age I would have felt the same way...but there is much more to this. Marriage is a house, so to speak, for a man and a woman. It has existed since human beings have been around. It has had many forms but through much learning we have eliminated the bad aspects of it (such as forced marriage and polygamy) and accentuated the postive aspects of it. Now one man and one woman in our culture are free to follow their hearts and choose their spouse, providing that stable family unit of a man and a woman so important to our children, our species and society. It is very important for us to defend marriage. For some homosexuals to claim our house and attempt to move into it and redecorated it is actually the opposite of being fair. There are many homosexuals that understand this and do not support ‘gay marriage’ while they are open to forming a pairing unique to them, building their own house, for example by way of a civil union.”

My post to her was deleted. I am waiting to speak to her in person to understand why it was removed. I’m also going to give her a written copy that hopefully she will hang on to and be able to look at in the future when Grandpa is gone and perhaps then understand and appreciate the messsage more fully.

Thanks for sharing. Unfortunately many young people have tuned out their elders on this one. I have relatives who have done the same. Very sad.

We must continue to stand on the Promises concerning our grandchildren. God’s promises are for our children and children’s children.

Declare the Scriptures over them. They will eventual come into alignment with the Word.
