Perhaps the Mormons donated in self defense, to discourage vandalism on their own nearby facilities.
Like Mormon tacquiyyah. Pretending to support, paying to be left alone.

That is possible.
Business people have been shaken down so I suspect religious orgs are not immune.

I think we tend to forget we are not at war with flesh and blood but powers and principalities.. These homeless are lost and maybe hostile and may be considered an enemy in some respect to people.

But the power and principality behind their life choice is ruthless- but still on a chain.

I think in romans somewhere it talks of heaping coals of fire upon the enemy’s head by giving your enemy food and drink.

These homeless gay youth may hate the mormon church and consider them an enemy . I don’t know. But if they do, the Mormon Church is doing what it says to do to our ‘enemies’.
