Chicago Archbishop Blase Cupich calls for compassion toward gay people
Chicago Sun Times ^

Archbishop Blase Cupich of the Archdiocese of Chicago has asked his congregation to be compassionate toward gay people following the U.S. Supreme Court’s decision last week to legalize gay marriage nationwide.

Cupich said in a news release that Catholic Church teachings call on members to avoid unjust discrimination of gay people. He said the respect must be real and reflective of the Church’s commitment to accept all people.

The heterosexual impulse has a logical purpose and reason that is self-evident and necessary for the human race...

The homosexual impulse has no equivalent reason that can be discern other that a corruption of the heterosexual impulse

..I can be indifferent to others personal irrationality but I will not service or summit to others irrationality, nor call it reason or truth.... if I do then I become irrational myself

self evident truths exposes self-evident problems...and problem are not resolved by getting others to say its not a problem

Here is another reaction:

“Springfield bishop calls gay marriage ruling a ‘misfortune’

SPRINGFIELD, Ill. (AP) - Springfield Bishop Thomas Paprocki calls the U.S. Supreme Court ruling legalizing gay marriage a “misfortune.”

Paprocki said in a statement Friday morning that the government “has no moral authority to change what god has created.” Illinois has allowed gay marriages since last year after state lawmakers approved them in 2013.

The Roman Catholic bishop says just because the government legalizes gay marriage “does not make it morally valid.”

Paprocki leads the Diocese of Springfield, which includes more than 140,000 Catholics in 28 counties in central Illinois covering more than 15,000 square miles.”

Read the entire statement. It completely ignores the concept of the rule of law, focusing instead on the results of the decisions from the point of view of the Left.

In includes an inference of bigotry on the part of those opposed to the decision.

Affirmation of Church teaching is a tiny afterthought in the entire statement.

It would not be unreasonable to deduct from this statement that the bishop expects Catholics to accept both decisions as good and wholesome developments in our society.

This is what the Catholic bishops have offered for 50 years in America, and this is where their evil pronouncements have led our society.

Bravo!

(But who am I to judge?)

From the article - He said, “Our aim in all of this will be to hold fast to an authentic understanding of marriage which has been written in the human heart, consolidated in history, and confirmed by the Word of God.”

What then?

If a Catholic diocese starts offering gay marriage (rumors are it will be attempted in the Davenport Diocese by the end of July), what will the rest do?

Or will this be just one of the things that is ignored.

Has the Pope said ANYTHING about this or Ireland’s Gay Marriage???? I’m guessing not from his Liberalness.

I don’t know. I think that’s going to be the crucial moment.

There will be some priest who will try it, though, I can guarantee that, and possibly a bishop who will let him get away with it. I don’t trust this Pope at all, so who knows what he’ll do?

But I think it’s going to happen soon, and if it happens and is tolerated, then the Church’s claim to an exemption is shot.

We just finished a renovation on our cathedral...pity, because it probably won’t be ours much longer.

Yes, it will be on a parish-by-parish basis, or even diocese-by-diocese. Those of us who disagree will be labeled un-Christian.

From what I also heard, the late Archbishop George, who Cupich replaced, really didn't approve of Cupich either.

But what does calling for compassion towards some group of people mean or imply?

If the Golden State Warriors or the Chicago Blackhawks win the championship, a religious figure isn't going to "call for compassion towards" them.

If you win the lottery or are drafted by the NFL, I'm not likely to want compassion for you (though maybe I should).

If people think you're on the right track, they don't offer you compassion or call for compassion towards you.

Unjust discrimination has nothing to do with Holy Matrimony. It is disturbing and foolish his statement does not reflect the difference.

Compassion? Yes.

Yes ... as compassionate Christians, we must remind people engaged in a sodomite lifestyle that they, like we are fallen sinners in need of a Savior. That sodomy is a evil act condemned by God ... and that God calls ALL sinners, they and we alike, to repentance, conversion, and saving faith in His Son Jesus Christ.

The most disturbing thing is the fact that the Pope, who is now going by the title of Bishop of Rome, which is a legitimate title of the pope by itself but does not indicate that he is in charge of the rest of the bishops, will declare that this is a local matter and he can do nothing about it. That is the approach that Kasper is taking in the case of divorce, saying that the German church has the right to do whatever it wishes.

So I think the liberal American bishops will say that they have the right to do whatever they wish, and the conservative bishops, who are probably majority, will nonetheless be powerless to stop them because the leftists have the support of the Pope. Strangely enough, the Pope always manages to intervene on the side of liberals and has in fact removed many conservative bishops and priests.

The question is whether any American bishops will oppose the leftists. I can think of a few who might, including mine (not well known and from a small diocese). But I don’t think there’ll be any help from Rome or the big dogs. Cowards at the time of Henry VIII, and cowards still.

Yes. Is there any other compassion for a servant of Christ to have?
