Cruz's Father Ignites Son's 2016 Presidential Campaign

Christian rights activists in the US have now got a new clarion call to flock to: Ted Cruz. Fence sitters among them (almost all of them count themselves as Republicans) are listening to a new political speaker in the block: the father of the presidential candidate himself: Rafael Cruz. The new speaker suits all their sensibilities of an excellent orator and most important of all, quotes the Bible at every possible opportunity.

Pastor to politics

Ted Cruz's father, Rafael Cruz is a well-known evangelical pastor presently making political speeches at churches around the country. He recites the guidelines for selecting political leaders as elaborated in the Bible. Cruz quotes Exodus 18:21, where the book pushes the selection of people who are God-fearing, able of body and mind and also truthful. There are also a number of other virtues also mentioned by him. Hardcore Christians are lapping up the political rhetoric.

In his father Rafael Cruz, Ted has found a super figure of sorts. He is 76 years old and originally from Cuba, who fled the country during Batista rule in the 1950s. He is an excellent speaker capable of exhorting to his side a number of evangelicals, who were unsure who to vote for during the contest involving Republican nominations. In a sentence, a potent tool to capture voters leaning towards the religious right.

Right attractions

Rafael is also reminding voters of their heavy responsibility to select only righteous leaders. He has asked them to elect persons who are Biblically correct, rather than politically correct. Cruz's campaigners however beware: while the candidate's father talks of Bible mixed rhetoric may attract some voters, the conservative stance may push away the all-important swing voters. The speeches say it all- the elder Cruz compared President Obama to former President Fidel Castro of Cuba. He said that the concept of “social justice” is a Marxist one. Rafael Cruz also linked a spurt in violent crime and teen pregnancy to decisions taken by the Supreme Court about taking away Bible and prayer from public schools.

Conservative pastors are not exactly enthusiastic in their endorsement of Ted Cruz. One of them, Anthony Liston from Davenport in Iowa, has expressed uneasiness about Cruz's candidacy post a fire breathing speech. The average voter has Ted Cruz as a dogmatic thinking in reductionist terms. Ted Cruz, in his publicly expressed views, have dismissed such reactions. He described such reactions as an effort by left leaning people to paint a negative picture of his father.

What I'm writing right now is not about this article, it is, however, about you.

We would have many less articles on FR if you were not here. You have to spend a lot of your time searching for up to the minute news articles you post.

I appreciate your posting so many important articles that keep us up to date with “what's happening now”. Being on your ping list is important to me - your comments are also important to me. :o)

I agree with you Marcella. I just watched the video. It was soooo moving and mirrored my thoughts since Bill was president.
