Never had Trappist beer. But I’ve had Briggitine Monk fudge, from Oregon. Yum!

Is this the beer that tastes like a pack of Sour Patch Kids candy?

I can’t drink American beer, gives me migraines.

For years, decades, I have only enjoyed German beers.

In 2008, while spending a weekend in Belgium, I discovered Trappist ales. They are wonderful.

The difference is really all German beers taste the same. A pils is a pils and if you’ve had one hefeweizen you’ve had them all.

The Belgium ales are delightfully different.

This is why the best beer (on average) in the world is NOT from Germany, but Belgium. Their Trappist breweries set a standard of quality that very few German breweries—let alone American craft brewers!—can match.

How can we quantify matters of taste/subjectivity.

While I agree that the Germans need schooling, I believe they need said schooling from the folks making beer a tad west/northwest of Belgium.

JMO.
